    Engine Synchronizer Inoperable

That is common, on many systems there are micro switches that prevent the system turning on until the main throttle is advanced sufficiently. People turn on the main switch and when nothing happens they assume it’s broken.

    Engine Synchronizer Inoperable

Is it a Glendenning or some other brand? Most common failure is in the rotary cable between the engines and the synchronizer. This is simple and not very expensive. Probably $100. In the case of CAT’s there is a 1” key way adapter that often fails. I keep spares on board as I seem to...

Onan 15KW Generator Fuel Filter Housing

I have a Delphi electric fuel pump that we made a transfer pump out of. It’s been used by myself and friends for 30 years. It’s not unusual for it to sit unused for 5 years and the used to transfer 400 gallons. I had a fleet of Isuzu NQR trucks. We often found the need to replace the...

    Mystery helm panel buttons

Does it rotate? Could it be a dimmer for the gauge lights?

    Village Marine (Parker) Water Maker

I can’t see the size of your membrane. I do see two of them. If they are about 36” long then 45 gph is correct. I run only one membrane and get 25 gph.

    Racor Heat Deflector

The only requirement for heat shields is what your surveyor will approve. I had no problem getting my Doggy buckets signed off by the surveyor. Lets not forget that UL approved the 30amp shore power cord and we all know how unsafe that is.

    New start batteries

I have two 8D’s in Parallel to start my two CAT motors. I do not find this overkill for various reasons. I cruise in remote locations on occasion. If a cell shorts I can isolate the bad battery. I don’t see any reason why two 8D would have an advantage over 4 Group 31’s.

    Racor Heat Deflector

You think Racor stainless steel is going to be more heat resistant than Chewy stainless steel?

    Starlink Mini

While completely adequate it’s a bit slower both on down load and upload than I normally see. Latency is also higher than normal. However, this is only one data point so we can’t say this is going to be the norm for the mini. Thanks for the data point.

Not sure if this would work for you but I use these to make my surveyor happy...

    Trawler Rabbit Hole..

Enjoy the dream. Reality is going to suck. What ever the boat costs you will pay that much again over the next 5 years to keep it going. Keep reading the forum to learn about all the things you don’t know but will need to know. I recommend you shop on Yacht world and search this forum for...

Crossing Back to USA from Canada - CBP App?

I see the problem. Do not use the enter key on your key pad. You need to exit the key pad and hit the submit button on the app.

Crossing Back to USA from Canada - CBP App?

I was having the same issue this morning and then I got in. Not sure what I did differently to get in on my third try.

    Starlink Mini

I have a spare cable so if I wanted I could take my starlink for a walkabout and just leave the cable in place.

    Starlink Mini

No, I use the boat as an in town condo all winter so I leave starlink active.

    Starlink Mini

I have never lost connection when traveling at 10kts or less while on Regional Mobile Plan. I did het booted off this week for traveling at 10Kts while still on the Residential Plan. Now that I have left the dock for the summer I upgraded to the Regional Mobile Plan. I will go back to the...

Crossing Back to USA from Canada - CBP App?

I just checked CBP Roam. At first I had issues with it logging me off but then it worked. I would suggest you keep trying. You can try calling the Nexus number. Last year I did it that way but it was a big hassle. What Nexus gets you is a most likely automatic approval with out needing to...

    Starlink Mini

If you have a residential plan in place you can add a 50gbt mini plan for $30. Otherwise, you will need a Regional Roam plan.

    Starlink

Yes, I believe you are correct. We will know for sure in a few days when I go in-motion with my Regional Mobile account. In the past I have never lost connection while being in Regional Mobile.

Tariffs on boats made in China

I don’t know your exact answer. I do know that you need to be sure. My neighbor was head of Sales for North Pacific Yachts. He was always trying to explain to US buyers why the cheap used NP in Canada was going to cost more than the Expensive used NP in Canada.

    Starlink

I switched the boat to Residential from Regional Roam back in March. The boat wasn’t going to leave the dock due to maintenance. A week ago we left the dock for a shake down run. I noticed a message on Starlink that said disconnected due to being in motion. I had never seen that before and...

    Starlink Mini

Looks like you can buy a mini and the Regional Mobile Plan now. This smaller size will be very beneficial for many boats. I suspect the mini will have slower speeds and higher latency but I doubt it will be a noticeable difference. Time will tell.

AGM vs Lead Acid Battery Charging

This is the correct answer. AGM’s use a different charging profile from FLA. Using a FLA profile on AGM will shorten the life of an AGM battery. What is a golf cart battery? 20 years ago it was a 6v deep cycle Lead Acid battery. Today it is more likely to be a LiFePo4 battery. Lead Acid is...

    Fitness/Excercise as a Liveaboard

I think this statement sums up most failures in the liveaboard or long term cruising world. Still, I have a road bike that I keep on a trainer on my enclosed back deck. I ride it 100 miles a week and when necessary I just put the bike in the dingy and motor to shore. It’s really for exercise...

    New start batteries

A good quality group 31 should put out 1000 CCA. So, 4 group 31 batteries in place of 2 8d batteries would give you 48% more CCA.
