Advice Needed - Mixed AGM and lead acid - Bow Thruster and Start Batt's

This is how I am currently doing it until I am in the mood to spend the money for an appropriate external regulator that allows me to send the full 110 amps from alternators to the house bank. For now I am only passing 50 amps from the start battery to the house via dc to dc charger. There is...

    Eco-worthy batteries

Positive wire runs to bat 1 then 2 then 3 then 4. Negative wire runs to bat 4 then 3 then 2 then 1. Eco-worthy recommends running all batteries to the same point so this could be why they drop off at different points. It’s just not convenient to wire it all to the same point with equal length...

    Eco-worthy batteries

Updating on my Eco-worthy installation. I have been monitoring the bank via my BKM. When on the hook I pull approximately 800 AH in a 19 hour period. I then run my generator for approximately 5 hours. My BMK counts AH out and in and gives me a SOC. Everything has been very consistent, even...

MMSI number for travel to Canada

I agree, I have mentioned in the past, no one ever got in trouble for using an incorrectly registered MMSI in an emergency.

Advice Needed - Mixed AGM and lead acid - Bow Thruster and Start Batt's

That is my preferred way of doing it. Currently I do it a little differently due to convenience but ultimately I will end up here.

    Synthetic oil for diesel

I use full synthetic in my HP SUV because that is what the manufacturer calls for. I use either shell T4 or chevron Delco 400 in my Cat 3208’s because that is what the manufacturer calls for.

So either one of your monitoring numbers is wrong or you are making a ton of heat. No other possibility in this time space dimension.

    8D Battery Removal

Golf cart batteries are now LFP batteries. I can no longer recommend FLA for house banks, they cost more than LFP, they have shorter lives, weight is much greater and they are more dangerous than LFP. If you already have a FLA bank I can see replacing like for like for simplicity but if you...

LFP Start Battery??? Are we there yet?

LFP start batteries would require me to rethink my alternator set up. That is assuming they are compatible with non start LFP. For now I do not need to replace my start batteries so I will just watch the development of these LFP start batteries.

Advice Needed - Mixed AGM and lead acid - Bow Thruster and Start Batt's

DC to Dc chargers is the correct way to deal with mixed chemistry batteries. I use the Victron DC to Dc charger. It is programmable for all the different chemistries and you just Bluetooth it to your phone.

How often to start the engines?

My diesel engines do just fine sitting idle for 6 months at a time. My gas engines do much better if they get a run cycle on them at least once every two months.

    Transmission Temp gage installed

Maybe? With out fluid the gauge would be unable to read a temperature. Unless you are talking about adding heat pucks. I have used them with warning lights to measure for heat on all kinds of things like exhaust headers, mixing elbows, risers and so on.

New Member with Question Regarding Annual Maintenance Cost

On average expect to pay 10% of the purchase price in maintenance. Now, no one is average. Some one is going to post how they spend much less but, they won’t mention that they do all their own work and have no fear of their boat breaking down away from home because they can fix anything. The...

    Cracks in coolant hose

I like the idea of repurposing the coolant. On the other hand your local auto repair shop can take your coolant for you. They might charge you a handling fee but will save you time and fuel.

    120VAC 60Hz Microwave step-up to 240V w/transformer

One way to do this is to split the 125v panel so the microwave is getting its power from L2 while the heaters continue using the L1 source.

    Cracks in coolant hose

First acquired 5 or more empty gallon jugs. Then find an easy controlled point to drain the coolant. After you have easily drained as much coolant as possible cut the hose at about the mid point and drain into a bucket. No need to add valves. You won’t be doing this job again.
