    Starlink Gen 3 Mounting options

All I did was to correct the misinformation that said you could not update your plan while offshore. You can always up date your plan. You just need to connect your device to the SL WiFi, the app always works regardless of your plan.

    Starlink Gen 3 Mounting options

What’s clear is that you didn’t connect your phone to your SL. Then your app would have functioned and you could have updated your plan.

Issues with the Navionics Web App

That clears things up for me. I have Navionics on my I pad. I use this for planning perposes. I got the app under a free trial. After the trial period I lost some features like auto route but the features I needed still functioned. One day while sitting in a hotel room with nothing to do I...

    Starlink Gen 3 Mounting options

This isn’t correct. Just run your phone through SL and you will always be able to use the app. You won’t be able to do anything else until switch your plan.

    Twin Diesels versus single

Crossing oceans is about range not about how many engines you have. Nordhavn’s come with twins and singles. Both work when the appropriate engine is matched to the appropriate boat. I would rather be on a well maintained single then poorly maintained twins.

4 blades or 3 blades props on a 58ft trader dual engines 2x435hp

Like Comodave said, if you don’t have the room for the correct 3 blade prop then the correct 4 blade prop will be the best decision.

4 blades or 3 blades props on a 58ft trader dual engines 2x435hp

Don’t worry about 3 blade vs 4 blade. Worry about the right prop. There is effectively no difference between the correct 3 blade prop for your boat and the correct 4 blade prop for your boat. Any claims of advantage will be so small that you won’t be able to tell the difference. What you...

Be patient with me, I'm the new (to nearly everything) guy!

Sounds like you have some on the water experience and know the rules of the road. That’s a good start. I am not experienced with your area, so I don’t know if this is an inland water trip or an open ocean trip. None the less it is not an extensive open water trip so the Predict Wind app...

    Removing anchor roller pin...not happening!

Heat it, spray penetrating oil, go have lunch, use gear puller. If no joy then heat it again, bang on it, heat it again, use gear puller. Repeat as necessary.

    Wooden hulled antique tug/yacht questions

If you want to know more about wood boats watch the youtube video "Sailing Yaba".

    Wooden hulled antique tug/yacht questions

I basically agree with Shrew. It is my opinion that if you don't already know these answers and your abilities as they relate to wood boats then you have no business being involved with wood boats. Should you proceed with this then higher a NAMS accredited surveyor.

    Salt water in fwd bilge

Does the water only show up after anchoring? Does the water only show up after a day on the water? Does the water show up after 5 days of just sitting at the dock?

New to boating and need a big boat

Lack of Knowledge equals expensive, Big boat equals expensive, Ocean crossing quality yacht equals expensive. Nordhavn equals very expensive. Don’t get me wrong, I am a Nordhavn fan.

New Member with Question Regarding Annual Maintenance Cost

Let’s get back to reality. Owner A buys newer and fixes nothing. He has the lowest cost of maintenance and the highest loss in depreciation. Owner B buys older and fixes everything like new. He has the highest cost of maintenance and the lowest loss in depreciation. Every other owner falls...

    Oil Samples Worthwhile?

I think what SteveK is saying is that it is odd that the broker didn’t have enough knowledge to say that 50 hours would be enough to take a good sample. The broker appears to be lacking in knowledge and is acting suspiciously. He agrees with your decision for multiple reasons.

Oil Burn Rate - CAT 3116

First I have Cat 3208’s not 3116’s. I drained my oil and then added 4 gallons as the manual requested. I then noted the level on the dip stick. Oddly the level was different between the two engines. I then noticed I went through a gallon of oil in 50 hours per engine. Due to a hectic travel...

New to boating and need a big boat

Frankly, if you are inexperienced and you think you need more than a 40’ boat, you are doomed. Now one in a thousand might make it work but that person could build his own house, rebuild his own engine and isn’t on this forum asking questions cause he already knows the answers. There is just...

    Charging LifePO4 batteries.

I have been using 600 amps a day out of a 1040 amp bank. Charging takes about 6 hours to hit 100% SOC. What I have noticed is I get to 90% SOC at 100 amps per hour which is basically what my charger can do given house loads of 25 amps continuously. At 90% SOC the amps start to drop, not sure...

New to boating and need a big boat

Let’s remember how this tread started. I paraphrase “ i don’t know much about boats”, “my budget says I can only afford an old boat”, “ I need a big boat” Lack of knowledge equals expensive, old boat equals expensive, big boat equals expensive. To anyone else having this dream, IT‘S AN...

    ONE bilge pump?

My 34’ sailboat had no bulkheads that trapped water. The boat had one automatic bilge pump and one manual bilge pump. My 42’ power boat had two bulkheads which formed three areas water could accumulate. Each area had an automatic bilge pump and the center area had a back up manual pump.

    Oil Samples Worthwhile?

I see this frequently. There is no correct answer. The answer is always different for different people and different boats. If you weren’t prepared to pay for an engine overhaul you chose wisely. One two things will happen. Either a different boat will come your way or the seller will put...

    Changing to LiFePo Batteries

I see no issues with sending both alternators to the same bank or sending them to different banks. In the case of a mandatory engine shut down you still have the generator as a source of electrical power.
