Good point, BandB. I sort of figured that and now it's been confirmed. Enjoy your day.

This comment surprised me, Phil. Are you saying that most of the water in the Gulf is not deep enough for a 4 to 5 foot draft?

I used to live in South Beach and am now in Kansas City, Missouri. Don't ask... :banghead: I like south Florida but not so much the Miami area. The water is great but the people leave a lot to be desired. I think I'd be happy further up the coast and possibly on the Gulf side anywhere...

You both have awesome boats. My last boat was a 14' kayak.

I chuckled at your suggestion not to get attached. That won't be a problem. :so cool: I'm prepared to have it hauled out and a current survey done. The boat I've been looking at just had one back in August of last year.

Hey Deano..... I just received a survey on an Endeavour 32' sloop that I liked. I told the guy that i wanted it more to see what it was all about and that a purchase would be dependent on the sale of my house, which isn't even listed yet but will meet with realtor next week. He was kind...

Thanks. It appears that there are a lot of friendly, well rounded people on here, regardless of net worth. Hopefully I'll end up meeting a lot of them down the road.

I'd like to be around $20k to $30k. I have a little wiggle room for an exceptional find.

I don't really face a lot of big egos but I may have to start charging for my 'counseling services'.

    Recreational Trawler

I looked this up today because I always thought of a trawler as a fishing boat and that's what Google said it was..... a fishing boat. :ermm: I've seen some mighty fine 'fishing' boats on here.

I can only do this one way and that's the cheapest way. I don't want to jeopardize anyone's safety but I don't need 'things' for the sake of having them. I want to simplify my life.

I'm just one person and once I get comfortable with going out of the marina, I'm pretty sure I could be just as happy living on the hook. Because of my line of work, along with fine neighbors, I'm pretty sure I'd have plenty to keep me company and if I get bored... I can always take a nap.

Thanks Murray. I don't do much nature photography but I hope to change that. I'm more set up for portraiture and portfolio development.

I've been looking at an Endeavour 32' sloop that's well within my budget. The boat has solar panels and wind generator as well as fuel powered.

Do they still make that stuff? LOL.... Great idea but it's been about 16 years since I've shot film.

I've found some marinas around $350 per month for full time and less than $500 for transient. These are up the Gulf coast from Fort Myers northward. Electricity is a flat fee of $35 a month in some and others are per kw/hour used. The $1000 a month living expenses will increase as I begin to...

Thanks Tomas. I'll do just that. I have a niece that lives and works in Honduras and would like to make that trip. Do you know of any people on here living full-time on a less than 32' boat?

I can cook and eat very cheaply and my drinks are water and coffee. A 6-pak of beer can last me a year and the occasional shot of tequila or a good whiskey is maybe 3 to 4 per year. I pretty much gave up all of my bad habits about 10 years ago.

Thanks to all who replied. All great responses and no negativity. I like this place already. I'd like to have access to a marina but won't be there every day, all day. Possibly month to month just so I have a base to return to for supplies and other necessities. I plan on doing some...

New to this group and hopefully living aboard full time soon. I can't make up my mind between motor-sailing or motor-yacht so I'm here to pick brains and learn what I can to see what is the best fit for me. My current profession is photographer/graphic artist, I just turned 63 in January, love...
