    surveyor findings - walk away?

No, the money spent is no big deal, and it's not my first "fixer". His mechanic is well regarded here and has been working with my guy. In effect my guy is supervising the estimate and I will be asking for standard warranty terms from the mechanic. Not my first boat rodeo, but is my first...

    surveyor findings - walk away?

interesting development, seller said "i'll fix everything on the list, and cover the full cost". it's a long list. I know there is stuff that isn't on the list but if the engines (all 2), support systems, radar, autopilot, windlass all get full repairs, this might work.

    surveyor findings - walk away?

agreed that trends are better, but one engine is showing coolant in the oil, the other is showing evidence of bad rings... Lesson for everyone - don't park your boat for 8 years, run it occasionally, and think non-use will keep it like new. What's the term on Boatdiesel? Engine Age?

well, unfortunately the oil analyses came back far outside of normal parameters.

haha, it was fun sailing her to Hawaii last year for sure. My background is high performance skiffs and multihulls. My other boat is a strip-planked International 14 skiff.....,

    surveyor findings - walk away?

I've rehabbed a couple boats, including a Santa Cruz 50, but nothing where I'd need to bring in the experts like this. I agree, somewhere around $40-50k off current agreement.

    surveyor findings - walk away?

i noticed a fore/aft acceleration up on the fly bridge at speed in say 2' chop. I did not experience that same motion at the main level, so chalked it up to the lever arm of being up high and, well, really pushing her. the boat certainly leans over when in a tight radius turn at speed, almost...

    surveyor findings - walk away?

which is, oddly enough, why it works for us. Short trips, frequent weekending with a 18 mile trip to the yacht club and the kids sailing gigs. Occasional week here and there. Keeping a couple of pre-teens interested in hanging out with parents through their teen years is high on the list...

agreed on that. The radar display is only on the lower station, but I doubt folks know to stay out of the beam.

    surveyor findings - walk away?

actually, I'd be interested to hear if someone feels real strong about it either way. the inspector, who spent 12 hours in the engine spaces, was cautiously optimistic.

    surveyor findings - walk away?

I have a 1991 Storebro 400 SRC in contract. basic survey was fine. A few little things: frozen windlass, autopilot ?, radar not working. some other items - but all of them pointed to an Owner who doesn't understand preventative maintenance. Engine survey, VolvoTAMD71Bs, 350 HP at 2500 rpm...

    DIY engine monitoring system

I'm interested, and the wife is a software engineer.... I'd like to monitor the specifics, set alarms, and keep logs of the basics for the 2 engines AND the generator. I had been thinking of some of the off-the-shelf devices like the NoLand and plug the datastream into an iPad running iNavX.

    Another converted blow boater

it's definitely a powerboat, although I don't think folks would call it a trawler..... http://newimages.yachtworld.com/resize/1/13/50/4011350_20140723120109799_1_XLARGE.jpg?f=/1/13/50/4011350_20140723120109799_1_XLARGE.jpg&w=924&h=693&t=1406145787000

    Another converted blow boater

Hi All, Have a Storebro 40 in contract. SF Bay and Delta. Plan on a summer(s) up in Puget Sound at some point. I'll still race on OPBs, but with two pre-teen girls felt a motor yacht would be a better choice in getting friends on board, etc. Cheers. Greg
