    Looking for a 34 or 42 pros/cons

Good words to live by, We are both set on the Beneteau Swift trawler, I think it's a perfect boat for what we want to do and I don't see myself going 5mph. The most important want is to have a "fast" trawler.. Cruising between 13 and 20 mph does the trick for us. I'm just as comfortable at 7 but...

Ok great info thanks all ...One last question , splinting hairs here, Seeing I'm doing most of my boating on Lake Champlain and I choose to register in Vermont because it seems to have a lower tax rate then NY, but I dock for the summer in a marina across the lake in New York ...can I do this ...

    Looking for a 34 or 42 pros/cons

Ok weighing the pros and cons of both boats. I'm going to list the pros and cons feel free to add on. PROS of the 42 two engines hence security if one goes down because of two engines , more stability more room nearly ten feet longer 11inch wider more sq footage CONS of the 42 more fuel cost...

Buying a Boat in the US

Ok do I have to have a USCG document of the boat? because from my understanding only US citizens can have that document. I was initially talking about licensing the boat, Question can I buy it, example in Maine and then boat it to lake Champlain and license it in Vermont for instance. thanks...

Buying a Boat in the US

That's what I was thinking also, Lake Champlain is like 80% Canadian boaters. Those Canadian license plates are mostly from owners that bought boats from a Canadian dealer but the boat was delivered to the US hence those Canadians don't pay Canadian taxes on the boat nor US taxes because the...

Buying a Boat in the US

I'm Canadian and I'm planning on buying a used boat in the US. The boat will remain in the US. I'm guessing I need to register and pay taxes on it. The boat will be on Lake Champlain between the states of Vermont and New York. Can I chose where to register and pay the sale taxes? thanks in...

    Ok convince me

Good points, I need to get answers to those questions. with so many hours I'm sure the boat has seen it's fair share of salt water too. I'm also thinking resale value adding to the hours i'm going to put on it too.

    Ok convince me

Looking at a Mainship 400 , 2008 with twin 240 yanmars. BUT it has nearly 2500 hrs on the engines ... the good side it's a fresh water boat. The 2500 hours scares me... Convince me that 2500 hours is ok ..... or not thanks

    Alrighty then ....

wow I have been pulled side to side, I read one post and I see the sense of it, then I read another and I'm pulled into another direction. I'm kinda confused but I also know the purchase is not before two years so alot of things might change. I have come to the realization that I'll still be in...

    Alrighty then ....

Nice thanks alot for the replies, I got some research to do, seeing the numerous boats listed in this thread... So to clear up things, the Mainship 40 is like a 10 knot cruising speed?
  19. Tigs

    Alrighty then ....

Well I can hit 50 mph with my cruiser and I like the speed the fuel consumption not so much. I'm entering retirement age so I think I'll be ready to ease off throttle. I just dont know if I can handle 8 knots , 15 knots seems like a cruising speed I can get used to. The plan is in two years...

Looking to buy a trawler, and so far what's fitting my build is the Mainship 40, I will be doing my boating from New York to the Georgian bay. The wife and I like the layout of the Mainship 40 and I especially like the price. Anything from 1998 to 2006 below 200K . The thing is I kinda like...
