    rocker stopper

I used them - 4 or 6 on each side with a weight off my midship cleats (13.5' beam). They didn't work very well at all. I have since pulled out the big guns and have one of these off each midship cleat https://www.flopstopper.com/FlopStopper/Home.html Vastly more effective. This year I...

    New boat sales falling...

I didn't know buying a slip was even a thing. In SoCal I don't believe it's possible anywhere, though in Newport or Catalina you can buy a mooring. I feel lucky to have a mooring in America's Cup Harbor. Prices are fixed by the Port Authority so not subject to supply and demand. Only...

    New boat sales falling...

Yeah... if you think a recession's coming (or secretly has already arrived), keep it to yourself, short the S&P & buy a nice big yacht for cheap in 18 months with the proceeds.

    New boat sales falling...

Talked to a broker here in SD who said that the market is definitely softening from his perspective; slips are very difficult to find and expensive, same with financing & insurance. I also see a huge shortage of marine service professionals; I do everything myself except diving and bottom...

    Keeping seagulls off bimini

I'll try the balloons - always up for buying anything for the boat that costs under $20! They should make a "marine" version and sell for $150. :) I seem to be having some success keeping gulls off my bimini while not shading solar panels by running 100lb monofilament lines suspended over the...

    Lehman Filter Changes

More thread drift: my port engine injector pump oil was diluted with diesel when I did my annual oil change ritual last month (~65hrs). What should I do next? Stbd injector pump oil was fine.

Weaver style davit question: can I leave the outboard on?

Thanks again - this looks like the perfect solution for us. They quoted me $2345 shipped to SD. Not cheap but not too bad either. Pete

Weaver style davit question: can I leave the outboard on?

That looks really appealing and easy to install. Extra length isn't an issue for me. Do you mind my asking the approximate price?

Hilary comes to Baja! (Pacific Hurricane)

Yeah - I'm following the example of the 3rd fleet... well I'm not sheltering at sea, but taking it seriously enough to spend a few hours prepping. Figure they probably know what's what. Just went for a 5mi run here in San Diego. Light drizzle, no wind... but better safe than sorry!

    Bluewater #1

Thanks for the pics! Very rare to see three staterooms in a 40' - we have 3 in our CHB 41 Trawler, along with walkaround decks, but with an aft cabin configuration. I don't think I've ever seen 3 forward staterooms in 40'. We just slept 10 + 2 greyhounds for 5 days so that third stateroom is...

Weaver style davit question: can I leave the outboard on?

Thanks all - very helpful. Will check out SeaWise as well. So you were using the hoist only, which brought your Tohatsu up on its side parallel to the water? No issues with the RIB's transom or the outboard leaking fuel or oil?

Hilary comes to Baja! (Pacific Hurricane)

Good luck! Secured our boat today... took the bimini and solar down. Lots of old derelict wrecks in the ACH mooring field; I wonder if we won't lose a few of them. Hopefully none of the crap on their decks hits us. Could get really messy if we get a lot of wind; folks here are certainly not...

Weaver style davit question: can I leave the outboard on?

Achilles 315-LX. 15hp max (I said 15/20hp since they're the same motor just different ratings).

Weaver style davit question: can I leave the outboard on?

We are contemplating upgrading our davit system to accomodate a motor big enough to get our lightweight 10.5' RIB on a plane - probably a lightweight 15 or 20hp EFI 4-stroke (~95lb). For a number of reasons the Weaver tilt-up style system would probably work best. Obviously, this would leave...

Bilge Keel - Rolling Chock installation

Yeah more data would certainly be nice, but on the other hand it's also difficult to imagine (for me at least) how, say, a "20% reduction in roll acceleration and a 35% reduction in roll magnitude" would be perceived. At the end of the day, it's the qualitative perception that makes the most...

    New Tender by Cottrell Boats

Looks absolutely beautiful! Please post more pics once you have her in the water! I appreciate a good rowing dinghy - we had a Trinka 10 for a few years before the family got too big and required a much less attractive but practical RIB. I've also always admired the PT-11, but your true...

FW pump variable speed or constant speed with expansion tank.

Curious what brand(s) are you and others having success with in variable speed drive? FWIW the bypass-style pump I'm using is the Shurflo 4048153E75. Wouldn't recommend due to the annual switch failure, but hoping it'll be more reliable with the relay I installed. If it's not, I'll look...

FW pump variable speed or constant speed with expansion tank.

We use a constant speed pump with the bypass valve. No accumulator. We ran through a pressure switch every season (~6-7 weeks constant use by 5+ people) - terrible reliability. This season following some recommendations on this forum I wired in a relay so that the ~10a (?) of current isn't...

Vexed header tank on older FL 120

Nice! Certainly a good option I also recommend the American Diesel kit - it's a pretty easy job; I used a flap sander chucked into my drill to get a great sealing surface, and JB weld to epoxy the new cap in place. I think the whole job didn't take more than a couple hours for two engines...

    Ford Lehman idle adjustment

It's possible to adjust the idle at the throttle cable or the two screw/locknuts which are surge control and idle. The FL120 manual tells exactly to adjust the latter. In my case, idle speed was too high even with the throttle cable removed, so I needed to adjust the speed down using the...

I know what it is, but only because I've been watching the amazing Tally Ho restoration videos on youtube!

    Grand Banks 52 Alaskan

What a shame! Any word on what caused the sinking? Curious if it was related to the hull like a sprung plank, or something that could have happened to any boat. We had an almost brand new Beneteau 45? footer sink at the dock in San Diego due to (I think) an open seacock and a hose coming loose.
