    Installing Lehman Power Instrument Panel

I don't know how much you'll gain by replacing all of the gauges - if they work I'd not touch them. Most likely you'd not want the same wiring for the ammeters anyway - it sends the entire alternator output through the gauge panels, which is not ideal.

Possible Lehman 120 injector pump rebuild in San Diego?

3700 hours indicated. Yeah understand the sentiment, and it could be the correct approach. On the other hand, like everything I've encountered with Lehman 120's, they seem to warn you well in advance of an actual performance issue. I'd noticed diesel in the injector pump oil that seemed to be...

Possible Lehman 120 injector pump rebuild in San Diego?

Good to hear. I just picked it up today and it looks fantastic. I'll try to get it installed in the next week & will report back. Very good vibes from the shop, seems like a really professional organization. Hoping I don't need to do the starboard engine anytime soon - access is just...

    Greetings From Syracuse, NY

Welcome aboard! I was born and raised in Ithaca, NY. You should take a look at the Albin 27 in the Classified section - that'd be a perfect boat for the finger lakes in my opinion. Great way to get started without spending so much that you need to sell your house!

Seattle, new to trawling, excited to learn all the diesel things

Congrats!!! We moved from a 40' sailboat to a 41' trawler for our family of five and have never looked back. The learning curve is steep for the first year or so, but don't get frustrated. It gets better and better - as you learn and understand the systems on the boat, you'll be mystified a...

Spare Ultra 27Kg Anchor: Keep or Sell

Unless you have a windlass, locker & roller on the stern I'd go with a Fortress all the way. I often dinghy our stern anchor out if I'm in a tight spot. Can't imagine doing that with a 60-pounder unless I really really had to.

    Defever 53 POC

I just spent a day looking at a 51POC in Alameda. Nice boat but headroom was an issue for me at 6'2" in a few spots. Engine room is amazing. Loved the walk-around decks and massive flybridge. Water access isn't great but that's what you get with a flush deck. They are cored so check for...

Draining fresh water and sea water on ford lehmans

There's an NPT coolant drain plug on the port side of the 120, from memory it's pretty close to the water temp sensor. I replaced the plug with a drain valve to make the job easier. For the raw water there's no drain port - the system is all external to the engine, and the volume of seawater...

Possible Lehman 120 injector pump rebuild in San Diego?

They tore it down today - barrels and seals need replacing, as to the bearings. Estimate is $2025, 8 working days including a week to get the parts.

Possible Lehman 120 injector pump rebuild in San Diego?

Thanks - I pulled the pump this morning and dropped it off a few minutes ago. Said they'd get a look at it most likely late this coming week. Other option was shipping it to a shop - there are a few out there who say they can exchange for a rebuilt unit for $1100 or so (plus shipping). Hard...

Possible Lehman 120 injector pump rebuild in San Diego?

Gonna pull it today and bring it to the shop in SD. Too close to cruising season to risk shipping it somewhere or bodging it up myself & there could be more than just seals to replace.

Possible Lehman 120 injector pump rebuild in San Diego?

The port engine in my CHB 41 trawler has got me nervous. Symptoms: 1. Fort the past couple years I have had difficulty getting a consistent idle speed out of it - doesn't seem to respond to the idle adjustment screw (this is the Minnimec pump - idle adjustment is on the injector body not the...

PNW to Mexico, Panama Canal, and Florida, on our way at last!

Well I guess if there's such a thing as an ideal oil leak, that might be it! Much better for it to be coming out of its container than something that needs it.

Delivery options & recommendations: Miami to San Diego

Our cruising windows are in the summer, which takes a good bit of the Caribbean out of play as I understand it. That said, I would consider such a strategy if the boat were close to turnkey (functionally - we're fine with aesthetic issues). But this boat would need months of yard time 3000...

Update: the PC looks to be in significantly worse condition than represented. Think this one is going to be a hard pass unfortunately.

LOL - yeah that's definitely "Step 2". Step 1 was indicative. If I'm not comfortable with spending $65k+ to ship the boat I'm not gonna buy the boat. I might take a second run at the delivery skippers if we get to that point.

Delivery options & recommendations: Miami to San Diego

I got a rough quote of $30k for a sailing cat that allegedly included all of that. Crew costs were $15k, the rest was fuel & expenses. $3k for the canal. He hasn't updated for a power cat yet - a bit more for fuel, a bit quicker trip. It does seem a bit light for 30 days, and extremely...

Delivery options & recommendations: Miami to San Diego

Thanks all - this has been a great thread. My current leaning is that if the boat is what I hope it is, to bite the bullet and pay for shipping. Had a discussion with my wife last night and for a number of family reasons I don't think the hopscotch method will work. There's another boat...

Delivery options & recommendations: Miami to San Diego

That may be the case. I know a guy who just shipped a Fleming 55 from Ft Lauderdale up to Vancouver for $85k, so there might be some premium for the beam but I don't think it's anywhere near 2x. We're on a mooring so dockage is no issue.

Got the quote from Cross Chartering: $68,700. Seems like $66-80k is the range; I have four quotes. I was hoping for $30k or so.

Thanks. I've heard that Leopard delivers them using one engine at a time. Also have heard reports of folks running single engines in charter and doing well at low speeds with reduced fuel consumption. Of course I'd need to verify all this. The boat currently doesn't have a generator or AC -...

Delivery options & recommendations: Miami to San Diego

Thanks a lot Peter - a lot of good stuff in that post. Indeed, the shipping quote is Ft Lauderdale to Ensenada. I have a surveyor visiting the boat in FL Thursday to see if it's worth flying out & seeing, after that I'll try to lock down some pricing. Fuel costs for the $60k delivery...

Hah! Yeah I hear he rates himself quite highly! Thanks for the recommendation :eek::eek: Any shipping companies to recommend? For sure it seems like a heck of a lot less stress. I've tried Peters & May and Legend Yacht Transport so far.

Delivery options & recommendations: Miami to San Diego

We are looking at a Leopard 47 power cat in Miami. Much as I'd love to do the trip, I don't think I can swing it. I've contracted a few different delivery skippers as well as shipping companies to try and get a handle on my options. Shipping is very expensive - $65k+. I got one quote for...
