Someone offline suggested the possibility of a fuel filled vent line? The boat reportedly is very difficult to fill with fuel, supposedly taking a long time. I'm not sure if this would create enough vacuum to stop the lift pump from supplying fuel to the engine? It has new tanks so maybe a...
Thanks. That makes sense to me and was my initial thought also. But wouldn't the leak be present on initial cold start up as well as when warm? Engine reportedly starts without hesitation when cold, only doesn't start without priming when warm.
A general question on a fuel issue. Cummins engine starts fine and runs smoothly up to rated rpm's. After shutdown while engine is warm, it will not start again without priming{squeeze bulb inline for this issue}fuel. Once it restarts it runs fine until the next shutdown and attempted warm...
Given the regular maintenance and use; I am leaning toward its going to be good for quite a while. As ski in nc said it's better that it was used and didn't sit. The owner regularly used the boat up until this spring. He is now too old and has decided to part with it. Thanks to all for the advice.
Thanks for the responses. The engine and trawler were maintained very well. No expense spared and all issues were addressed immediately. The original owner is now 93y.o. and this was his baby. He was a marine engineer by trade and designed weapons systems for the navy. There are complete log...
I am looking at a trawler that has the Cummins 4bt 3.9 150HP engine. The vessel was purchased new in the mid 1980's by a naval engineer. It has been serviced and maintained very well. The engine has 7000 hours on it. Should I be concerned? What would be the lifespan of this engine if properly...
Ken,
Thanks for information. I have been looking on the LNVT site for about 3 years now and have learned quite a bit about the tugs from the members. I would only consider one with the Cummins engine....the BMW just presents too many unknowns, especially since it is no longer produced or...
LOL! I guess "homely" looking is one way to describe them! I like the gunwale lines and the round stern, sheer bow look...to each his own!
I was thinking it would be a nice weekend ICW boat with the ability to get to the Bahamas for a week or so on occasion. I am concerned about the quality of...
Thanks to all for the replys. I have heard that they tend to roll quite a bit with a beam sea but do better when quartering. The later examples with the 3.9 BTA Cummins would be the way to go just from a service/reliability standpoint.
Prices were high just a few years ago but have come down to...
From what I have read, the 37, 41 and 49 LNVT's built in the mid to late 80's are nice, solidly built tug type boats. Anyone here have any experience with them or any opinions on the build quality, seaworthiness etc. etc
Thanks
John
Well....I've been around and owned boats for 50 years now....I'm 61. I have looked at this boat, flew from Florida to Mass and spent the better part of a day going through it with my eyes and camera. I checked for wood rot in the bulkheads, rust on the steering gear, condition of the prop and...
This is a mid 80's Fiberglass boat. I have looked at the SAMS website and there are at least 20 surveyors in the greater Cape area. If I call them, they will all say that they are the "best" in the business and have surveyed my prospective type boat or similar. In other words, I wont know much...
Hi,
I'm the new guy here with a grand total of ZERO posts!
Recently sold our home and soon to be live aboards. I am looking for a certified marine surveyor in the Cape area of Massachusetts for a mid 80's trawler type boat. The broker has recommended someone and it appears that this person has...
