    Yanmar starter intermittently won't engage

I'm not sure I entirely understand the issue you're having, but if it helps at all my plan is to go ahead and replace all my "large" conductors and go from there. In my situation, I know my main conductors coming from the battery and going to the starter and battery/house negative are original...

Thanks all. This gives me a good starting point of things to look into.

    Yanmar starter intermittently won't engage

Hi all, I have a Yanmar 6phm-the and as the title states sometimes the starter just won't "fire". I can hear the solenoid getting energized, but nothing else happens. The starter is pretty new so I don't think it's the starter itself. I found some pretty weird wiring going on and cleaned all...

    Transmission rear oil seal

@dvarholy Great idea! Thanks. @C lectric Thanks for the link. I actually do have the original service manual. I think I more or less get the process, I'm just worried about anything I might not be aware of regarding the boat being in the water while doing the seal. I've never decoupled a shaft...

    Transmission rear oil seal

Jumping on an older thread here but... I need to tackle this project as well. Anyone know if there is anything I need to especially wary of when doing this with boat in water? Thanks!

    Anodes and Bonding

I don't know man. I've done and seen some pretty compelling experiments with creating galvanic cells in tubs of sea water. Even without introducing stray current I've seen the results of connecting zincs to underwater metals. Introducing current I've seen nails disappear in hours. With the rats...

    Anodes and Bonding

@CharlieJ #20: Charlie, any tips on getting a good connection to my through-hulls that don't have studs on them, which unfortunately is most of them? The previous method I'm seeing on the boat was to just rest a bolt going through the ring terminals onto the through-hull housing. Do you know if...

    Anodes and Bonding

Aligator clamp is a great idea. It's in a pretty tight area with limited access, it would be hard to tap strait the more I think about it. I'll give it a go though and use the alligator as a backup and fix properly down the road. Thanks for the idea!

    Anodes and Bonding

Unfortunately, I just have a single bolt head to work with. I'll jump in there and grab a picture.

    Anodes and Bonding

On the boat I just bought the bonding system was attached to the transom anode bolts by stripping back the bonding wire and hose clamping it to the bolt head. Of course this failed and now I'm left with no anodes. What I'm wondering is, based on your comment, how do i properly fasten the wires...

How should wires be attached to transom anode?

In this picture, how is the bonding wire physically mounted to the anode through-bolt? On my boat a stripped piece of conductor is just sort of resting against it, with apparently a long since broken hose clamp that presumably at one point held it on. It's all corroded of course. Do you tap...
