Tell Me About My Rudder Setup

Looks similar to mine. I had it "Samantha-twitched" back to new in Mexico this year for $650. Great deal. Salt was starting to accumulate around the packing, which told me it was starting to fail. It probably could've just been a packing replacement, but I figured since I only have one rudder...

Definitely drop us a line if you head north, and if you have any questions about getting up here!

Hugely so! Now we just have to figure out this fishing thing. We finally started putting a line in the water towards the end of the trip, but no dice.

That would be awesome! I'm looking forward to getting to know other boaters up here, just as we met so many on the trip down.

Not this year, but that would be a great trip for next year.

Just to wrap things up, I wanted to mention that our trip has come to an end. We spent the last couple of weeks cruising in the Sea and now Halcyon I is on the back of a ship, heading back to Victoria (ETA approximately a week from today). What an awesome trip we had, and now we can't wait to...

So, it's starting to get toasty here in La Paz. 30C every day. It cools down at night but not until about midnight or so. As a result, I want to install a fan in the quarter-berth - one that I bought in San Diego. I thought I had a 12V DC outlet in the quarter-berth that I was going to...

Haha, we probably walked right by each other! We were just walking on your dock. We'll try you tomorrow! It's almost cruiser bedtime after all.

Likewise! If you see us going up-hill, it will be on the back of a transport ship!

Also at Marina de La Paz. Slip 130, looking at the mega-yachts. Feel free to stop by!

    Dock line noise

Are you in Baja Naval? We couldn't stand it after three nights and had to move to Cruiseport. Best decision ever.

Thanks, Tom! It was like yesterday that you were waving to us from the dock in Asotria! We'll never forget your and Kay's hospitality. Hope things are coming together nicely for your trip up to the gulf islands in the summer. Been following your updates on Facebook, I think you've earned 10...

Unfortunately not. One of those things I will regret not installing... I wonder if it'll even be possible to get a unit shipped down here.

Will do (when we cross the Sea and head south, in a couple of months). I can't wait to get pictures of the boat in the beautiful anchorages down here. We'll be hiking up hills for some great shots in the near future. Tempted to get a drone now that we're down here, but that's a good chunk of...

Yup, had dinner there tonight! I have to get my tequila brands down, though. Had a $20 margarita by accident!! Was tasty though.

We ended up anchoring in the north end as we got there before the forecasted southerly. It was a fairly quiet, uneventful overnight passage and the anchorage was quiet as well. While in Bahia Santa Maria we surf-landed the dinghy and explored the beach. We were hoping to get over to the side...

Update! Ended up departing Turtle Bay on the morning of the 28th, as planned. It was a great day to cover the 57 miles to Bahia Asuncion with two of our sailboat friends alongside us. Made our first beach landing and found a great place for dinner (Mary's Luncheria) for the six of us. It was...

    Just a word of thanks

Hear, hear! Eight months ago I had never owned a boat in my life. Now we've gone from Canada to halfway down the Baja Coast, and hopefully we'll go much further. Along the way we met several members of the forums and they've been incredibly generous and helpful! TF is fantastic.

Yes, lots of small grocery stores here. Seems like there's a different one around every corner; most are the size of a 7/11. The quality of the produce is okay, but not spectacular. Then again, considering we're in a small town on what looks like the surface of Mars, we're not complaining!

If conditions are good we will attempt the anchorage-hop route down to Bahia Santa Maria. Weather looks good for a departure from Turtle Bay on the 28th.

Typing on my phone so may be a little brief. Departed on Wednesday the 16th to start the anchorage-hop to Turtle Bay. We arrived at Cabo Colonet and anchored 250 yards out in 20' in a gentle swell. Around 9pm we got tossed by a significant roller that we were lucky didn't break on us (approx...

Don't think we'll make it up to Coral but it's obviously a great part of town based on the number of cruisers staying at the Coral Marina. If we end up bashing our way back up the coast in the spring instead of heading south, we'll have to stop in LA as we missed it on the way down. :)

Excellent! Hope you had a safe arrival. We're in C-1 at Cruiseport if you want to stop by and say hello. Probably having a quiet day on board with the rain and wind today.
