    Vitrifrigo fridge

Our Vitrifrigo has been running 24/7 for several six month seasons now on DC with solar panels supplying the juice. Trouble free so far (knock on wood). Very quiet. Very satisfied.

    Stay safe Manatees!

Larry: Good news for you. Terrible for Parks. Can you tell us whether there was much surge flooding on Longboat? We have a lease on a house in Longboat Village on the head of a canal for this winter but have not yet heard whether it suffered any damage or flooding.

What a bummer Parks. So sad. Commiserations from her home State.

    Hurricane Irma

I am deeply empathetic about the tragic effect that this storm will probably have on the lives of the people of Florida, many of whom my wife and I have met and befriended over the last couple of years while enjoying brief respites in Florida from Maine winters, and their properties. Without...

    Trim Removal Help

Take a sharp scraper and gently remove all the finish over the plug/bung. Then take a small screwdriver or ice pick and push it into the bung (a hammer can be helpful). Chip/pry out small pieces of the bung without damaging the area surrounding the circumference of the bung. Patience. Hopefully...

    Source for large brace bits

Inherited a brace with a couple of screwdriver bits from my father. Came in very handy for use on #12 and #14 plank fastenings on the 40' wood boat we had for 23 years. Haven't used it since we sold the boat, but I'm hanging on to it nevertheless. Those old bits have lasted for a long time...

    Marine upholstery fabric choices

Sunbrella. Preferably in a color near matching the dogs' hair color if they are shedders. To clean use Woolite. Then add 303. If your dogs are big scratchers, all bets are off. Oh,...and a small beater bar vacuum. Works for our yellow lab.

    Cat aboard?

There's a parody of an old church hymn "Fling out the banner! Let it float skyward and seaward, high and wide" that substitutes "cat' for "banner". Can't remember the rest.

    Another US Navy collision

My son in the US merchant marine says that their motto is: "If it's gray, stay the hell away". Partially because the merchant mariners don't feel that the Navy knows what it's doing navigationwise.

    Humor

With apologies to our Kiwi members: The only cow in a small town in Queensland stopped giving milk. The town folk found they could buy a real good cow in NZ quite cheaply. As you are aware, NZ has a fantastic dairy industry. Their cows are the best. They brought the cow from NZ and it...

4200 for fittings above and below. 5200 if you want to cuss and swear a lot when you inevitably have to remove the fitting. 4000 for caulking around windows and such.

    The view from the flybridge...

In Merchant's Row. One of our favorite places as well. And between Bold and Devil. If you get to Buck's Harbor, give us a shout. We may be aboard tomorrow or Thursday.

Plan B for a dinghy motor failure?

A small kicker off to one side on the transom or laid down on the sole? Takes up crucial space, but even a back up electric trolling motor would be better than having to row a rubber ducky. Been there, done that several times and in any sort of breeze ...!

My take. Bite the bullet. Haul the boat. Install a proper through hull and seacock. End of story.
