how often do you change your tranny fluid?

ZF IRM220A-I. Every 100 hrs. 30 weight motor oil. Usually do it at the end of every season=5 months here, but may do it twice this season as we plan to be putting more hours in this year.

    What's your haulout schedule

Yup. In the frozen NE our insurance requires us to lay up by Oct 15. So each year we haul about that time and change the oil and oil filters and in the Spring we paint the bottom, replace the zincs, replace the fuel filters, do the brightwork, etc. We used to have the bottom pressure washed...

What length lines for Erie, Rideau, Richlieu, Champlain Canal locks

Thanks all. Looks like we are all set then. Six 10" dia cylindrical fenders and two (18") ball fenders, all with covers, and six dock lines about 30' length. And, FF, a large midships cleat.

What length lines for Erie, Rideau, Richlieu, Champlain Canal locks

Apropos of the thread on the Chittenden locks, which talks about 35' and 60' lines, what length lines will suffice for these locks?

Wind, weather and seas - how much is too much -advice needed

T'aint necessarily the wife. Our 32' IG, somewhat similar to a GB 32, has handled, on at least one (to me) terrifying occasion, more than I wanted to handle, then or in the future. But my wife was loving it. She kept yelling with joy at each near broach in lobster pot infested (god help us if...

    I failed at impeller install

The OEM 1700 series Sherwood pump on the 6BT or 6BTA is not. The SeaMax replacement pump is. Makes impeller removal much, much easier. And if impeller is ordered from Seaboard, they supply a threaded puller with each impeller. (Anyone need one? I now have a few extra.) The OEM Sherwood also...

    I failed at impeller install

What he said. I installed the SeaMax pump a couple of years ago when our Sherwood bit the dust. Removed the fuel cooler (just last week). Bought a piston ring compressor. This spring's impeller change went fast and easy and the pump has been trouble free. Didn't have to use any four letter...

    I failed at impeller install

Have done the hose clamp routine. Major PITA. Especially where slippery lubricant is involved. Why use several clamps that you need to individually tighten/loosen when you can just use a piston ring compressor that tightens the impeller uniformly?

    I failed at impeller install

Good advice. I finally broke down after years of frustration and bought this:Stanley Proto J2316 Proto Piston Ring Compressor - Hand Tool Sets - Amazon.com. With a little grease, worked slicker than a weasel. Tighten the compressor down somewhat narrower than the opening and you have leeway...

Sea Wise davit pads pulling away from dinghy

Probably just needs to be reglued to the dinghy. Is the dinghy hypalon or pvc? That will dictate the proper glue to use. Follow the proper glue's instructions for cleaning and prepping the surfaces. Sometimes it's easier and better in the long run to remove the pad completely (careful use...
