    Are inflatable kayaks any good?

My wife bought one of these a couple of years ago and pronounced it a good compromise between a hard kayak and a Sevylor type. Has a frame. Tracks and paddles reasonably well. Stows in the lazarette. ADVANCEDFRAME® KAYAK: AE1012 | Advanced Elements

Should have said inconsequential damage. The damage was to a cheap storage ottoman that had a leg fold up.

    Tipping Delivery Captain

Done deal in our case. Tipped at 11% as it made a nice round figure. The boat arrived clean, washed down, holding tank pumped, ice replaced and fuel topped up. Minor damage not their fault. No charges to us for meals (although they did, at our urging, eat down a small amount of our fridge and...

Anytime Al. As long as you have a Breton Red cap on the boat and the liquor cabinet are at your disposal.

    Tipping Delivery Captain

Thanks for all the replies, even if no consensus. Boat arrives tomorrow morning. We probably will add a bit to the 5 days @ $350/day, plus expenses, pot. My rough estimate is total will be around $2500, so maybe pay $2750 adjusted upwards if his total higher. i.e. plus 10%. That is, if boat...

    Tipping Delivery Captain

We had to cut short a long cruise we were on and hired a delivery captain to bring our boat home. Four day delivery. One day of nasty, rough seas weather and two days of rain and roll but no wind. Captain was initially going to bring his wife as crew but she didn't like the weather so he brought...

    North to DownEast?

Denise: You might also want to check out Buck's Harbor. The marina there has moorings but no slips. You can rent a mooring on a transient basis and get their services included or, if you have your own mooring, you can become a "member" for an annual fee. Last time I checked the annual fee was...

    Where to escape summer heat?

Come to Maine. We have two seasons: winter and then July. Oh wait, I forgot mud season and blackfly season. But July is the only (relatively) warm one.

    Mooring Etiquette

In our neck of the Maine waters, that is what is done. At your own risk and perhaps of your mooring neighbors of course. Different areas will have different customs and, shudder, regulations. If any TFrs are going to be in Buck's Harbor, Maine, this summer, our primary mooring is available...

Cummins 330 hp Air Filter Assembly

Do you have a Walker AirSep? We do on our 6bta and I have experienced the same. Our "solution" was to use the Walker sealing compound between the filter and the sleeve, two T type hose clamps and not to over tighten. If you over tighten you can collapse a section of the sleeve (I did). Still...

How do you keep your dinette table off the ground?

We sort of did that. Put a pedestal that had an adjustment range to our requirements onto a broad base. Slide it around as needed. If rough water is anticipated, we can lash it to pad eyes on the face of the settee.

    temperature sender with dual stations

Did you try Tony Athens' Seaboard Marine site. They have dual station senders VDO for Cummins. Give them a call if you don't see what you need or need an answer to your question. Very helpful and knowledgable.

    InReach

Got one from Defender awhile back when they had a special Active Captain discount. Have fired it up for the first time in preparation for a long boat trip this summer so that friends and family can follow our progress (or lack thereof). Also like the SOS feature and text messaging. Have two...

I need a float for my new phone

I wonder if that Key Buoy has sufficient buoyancy for a cell phone. If it does, and a case has a lanyard attachment point, as does the Catalyst waterproof case that I have for my iPhone 6, one could attach the Key Buoy there.

    Replace Toilet on 390

Two years ago we decided that we wanted to switch from our really noisy Jabsco salt water toilet to a quieter fresh water one that used minimal water (small holding tank). We took a flyer on the (then) new SeaLand MasterFlush 7120 Electric Macerating Toilet. Two years later, we couldn't be...

    What footwear do you use?

Crocs on my ugly feet look, um, ugly. Although I did buy some Crocs awhile back. They are sort of comfortable, but squishy, make my feet sweat and ... did I mention ugly. Sitting in the back of my closet. Didn't use them enough to find out if they lost their non skid properties over time. I'm...

Cumminns 330 hp cooling water vent

Pgitug: Just curious. I see a "Short Zinc" notation on the front end of your heat exchanger. I have a 330 6bta in our boat but use the same length zincs in all (three) locations. Should I be concerned? My local boatyard/Cummins dealer has never said anything about the need for a shorter zinc.

Spare Prop Storage - 36' GB Europa

Ours stores in the Laz with a similar hold down. Usually don't have the spare prop on board and we put two tool chests in that space. But doing a long cruise this season so the spare is on board and the tool chests, sigh, now occupy center stage right under the hatch to the Laz which is a frig...
