    Another "What Would You Do?"

When in doubt. I agree with this decision. The traveling over to the wrong side of the can is only asking for trouble. "Hope" is not part of correct seamanship. The other boat obviously had no idea about where he was supposed to be.

    New to forum , 78 34 mainship Mk1

That's my opinion as well. Read the tide and winds and take your time and it shouldn't be an issue. Now bow thruster would certainly make it easier but not really necessary imo.

Been on the water for better than 30 yrs on boats up to 120 ft. Never used a bow thruster but autopilot is in the works. Although I do not mind hand steering. Keeps me more alert for floating deadheads and kelp monsters that are abundant in this area.

Boat is working out wonderfully. It's been in the water for the last 2 years and we take it out weather permitting. Added a radar arch and solar panels up on top. Solar is the way to go. Batteries are never down. Even in the winter.

    Alternator

Searched the forums and came up with nothing adequate. My 34 MK1 with its t6.354 lost its tach awhile back. Been kinda doing research on this problem and going out quite a few times while doing so. Some people say the tach signal comes from the alternator and others say it comes from a...

    Repower possibility 79 mainship 34 MK1

Thanks for all the fantastic replies. Think I'll just go with the head job this winter. Other than the leaking head it runs great. I was just looking at the increased HP scenario. I'll be fine staying at what i have now. After all the boats name is Slow Goin. Hate to contradict that.

    Repower possibility 79 mainship 34 MK1

Hey guys. Ship currently has a t6.354 w/7000 hrs and a leaking head gasket(oil ) Seen this today and looked like a good deal compared to a 1000 head and valve rebuild(might as well if im changing gasket) has anyone fit one of these into a MK1? Volvo TMD 70B 200hp diesel marine engine...

Dont know about your autopilot as i don't have one but seeing as how you're already using PI might consider OpenCPN chartplotter. Runs great on Pi with low wattage req. OpenCPN is an opensource chartplotter thats remarkably powerful and the ability to update your charts over wifi is even...

Simpson - Lawrence Seawolf 520 Windlass

16640-lowerGoing through this very same thing on my boat with very same windlass. My circuit breaker was bad also. Replacing as soon as it arrives. Also seeing as how putting electrical components in a very wet area just isn't good for anyone. I'm moving the electrical parts through the...

Mk 1 mainship 34 sliding window rebuild

I saw that and considered it as a possibility but not sure how long it will hold up to saltwater enviroment. It's still on my list to do though.

    Bonding

I've been reading "Your Boat's Electrical System" By Conrad Miller. Which goes into great detail about bonding, grounding and lightning protection. Which is how i was planning to wire the boat up until i read a couple different articles elsewhere. As for what works....... when i bought the...

    Bonding

Hey guys, tried searching for bonding but nothing came up. Need some wisdom and advice. Got a 79 34 mainship which has a zinc attached to the back which suggests at one time it was bonded as per NYCG guidelines. Problem is now there is nothing connecting to it and both thru hulls dont...

Are you sure its 200hp? Mine is 165hp. Same year as yours. I didnt think the 200 hp came out until 81-82. Top speed is 12 knots WOT. Cruises at 7-8 burning about 1.5 gph . WOT is about 4+. My flying bridge has some rot as well. Project for the fall as well as re coring the cockpit with new...

1981 MK1 Boat engine room louvers

Boat air vents - All boating and marine industry manufacturers Found this in my exhaustive search. List of various manufacturers of vents. Requested a custom one to be made. If they can't do it I'll be doing it like Don did with different size and cutout to fit the bigger hole.

1981 MK1 Boat engine room louvers

Yes i saw those. They are 12 1/4 inch long. And have flanges. Thought about buying them and cutting modifying to fit. Coincidentally i just ordered detmar tables last night for the salon with recessed holders as extra. , The MK1 was an odd duck it seems, a few things I've had to make as...

1981 MK1 Boat engine room louvers

Anyone find any direct replacements for the louvered vents on the side of the boat? They are 11 n 1/4 × 3 1/2 inches. 2 per side and they were glued in the recessed intake box. I've spent a couple of days already scouring the web and cannot find anything of that size. There are no flanges...
