    110v Windlass

RE: 110v windless Be*careful*what you buy. Some windlasses were 120 DC. Still see one once in awhile. You can still run them using a rectifier.*Rodger

    A/C cooling water flow alarm

Digital gets my vote. With them you can set it on away mode and it will come on every 4 hours until temp drops about 4 degrees. Good ones are not cheap. Sounds like you have old analog controls. If so you could add a pump relay or control that would only run the pump when a compressor is...

    Does Anybody Know This Boat?

This boats been for sale awhile. Is still listed at 229k. These are the first pics I've seen. This boat has a fiberglass house which reduces wet wood problems. Looks like not much in the way of upgrades. No engine pics but I believe they're 135 Lehmans. Price seems about right if all is well...

    A/C cooling water flow alarm

On Rollsdoc we have FX digital controls that have temp sensors on the condensors. When that temp reading goes up I know it's time to check the strainer.

    Marine Trader BW Transmission troubles

Took the BWs out on Rollsdoc and replaced them with ZF-63As. Bought 2 of them for the price of a rebuild on 1 BW. The A model is a 8 degree down angle. Now my engines are near level (for a boat) The ZF uses the same damper plate and bolts up to the BW housing.*I know of one boat that removed the...

    Marine Trader BW Transmission troubles

While we're on the subject, how about Lucas' attempt at electronic ignition. I believe it was called OPUS. It was used on almost everything English. MGs Triumps Jags Rolls-Royce and Bentleys. They all failed. The cure was a CD ignition with a Lucas label. Open it up and it had a Declo module in...

    Marine Trader BW Transmission troubles

If that BW needs any hard parts you might look at a new ZF. The 63 series can be had for less than $2500

    Exhaust Fitting

Custom is what you will have to do. Another alternative is fiberglass tube. No bonding no corrosion.

    Blister Repair Project

There are blisters and there are BLISTERS. I'm glad I'm not a broker and have to deal with them.* I've seen a few rip off artists when it comes to blisters and there repair. I've never seen a blister sink a boat.

Slapping noise from waves on hull.

Foam Noodles the kind with a hole through them. Thread a rope through them. Then fastem them at the waterline. Makesa differance but ya gotta pick em up before you move.

    Replumbing fuel system

I don't believe "unwinds intact" is what is supposed to happen. Seems to me 1 1/2 wrap of tape is whats called for. Then when tightened the tape is cut by the threads and takes up the space between the peaks and valleys of the threads to seal them. A great alternative to tape is Loctite 567...

    Bilge switchs

Ultra Pumpswitch's get my vote. Been using nothing but for years. Had one go TU on a boat I serviced. Done in by a lighting strike. They come in 2 styles Senior and Junior. The Senior has an extra feature. It will set off an alarm if the water continues to rise. They have an LED light on top so...

    NEW Propane Refrigerator Installation

1/4 pound per day sounds great. Ours, a Norcold RV unit, runs 21 days (in the Bahamas or South Florida)*on a 30 pounder. You could set your clock by it.

    Battery Box

WOW, really. Not an urban myth.I didn't say burn the posts off. I said cables. I saw a dive boat that sunk with at least one cable from each 8D burned off. These were new 2/O cables. Our inboard tender was swamped crossing the Gulfstream last year. When we arrived in Bimini the positive cable...

    Battery Box

It'll burn the cables off the posts in minutes. Guess that's one reason we have an 8D gell in the wheelhouse that will run the electronics if the engine room floods. Rodger Wrona Rollsdoc MT49PH

    Battery Box

Ever see what happens when sea water covers a battery? In an emergency (water over the batts) you'd lose the bank. No engine start? No bilge pump? No radio? Just something to think about. Rodger Wrona Rollsdoc MT49PH

Why are they British? I assumed the boat was built in Tiawan. And that's what they used.

    Rudder Maintenance

They thred into the plate about 1/2 inch. Be careful not to bugger up the threds or lose the nuts as they most likely are BS (British Standard) thred. Rodger Wrona Rollsdoc MT49PH

    Rudder Maintenance

Try removing the studs and turning with a pipe wrench. A tap from a hammer might help. It's just 2 peices of bronze with corrosion between them.

    Rudder Maintenance

Most likely those bolts screw into a wood blocking that is glassed onto the hull. I've seen the stuffin box leak where it goes through the hull and rot the block. You might not notice this till the boat is hauled. Sometimes they can leak around the box and you will see it. Sometimes when hauled...

    Diesel idling

I'd start the engines just before you leave the dock. Soon enough to make sure all is ok and late enough so you don't smoke the neighbors out. The engines will warm up as you leave your slip and negotiate the fairway.
