    Bahamas and safe harbor?

Pretty much the same problem. Just in Cancun, MX for a major repair. Plan is to move the boat either to Progreso, MX or to the Bahamas from early March to December. Any recommendations for the Southern Bahamas? Wouldn’t be as far as the Abacos. Happy New Year to all, Jan

Long Range Cruising - How big is too big?

Steel experience We’re cruising FL East Coast, Cuba, Bahamas and actually FL West Coast with our Dutch made ALTENA Blue Water Trawler. It’s 49‘ , 16‘ beam and draws 5‘. The steel hull ,combined with a strong keel and skeg keels to protect rudders and props, is amazingly solid and all the ICW or...

    Hello from Germany

Hey Swen, Sounds good your 2019 project. We also store our boat in Florida over the summer. It’s close to Ortona lock in the Okeechobee Waterway on a private dock. Just finished our 4 month Bahamas trip from November to March and are now back in Tyrolia. The Great Loop might be, after the...

    Pretty or functional?

Wonder no one mentioned a European boat like the one I operate. Bought this Dutch made 2003 Altena 49’ two years ago in NC to cross the Atlantic. Many of those Dutch boats are seaworthy (CE-A) and equipped with long range tanks, hydraulic stabilzers, big water tanks and everything else you...

Long term storage in the FL Keys

This summer I left Lullabye in the water close to Ortona lock on Caloosahatchee River. Even Irma wasn’t a problem. Been there during the storm and all boats went without any major damage. Good place during hurricane season! Jan

    Stern thruster, yes or no

I think it is mostly a question of reliability. Electric thrusters are likely to fail respectively to be underpowered. I do have both bow and stern thrusters but powered with hydraulics. This makes more sense due to the "unlimited" power hydraulics provide. Having it on battery I would prefer...

Will be in Dordrecht the week after next week to visit the shipyard which built my vessel.

Interesting video of River Elbe traffic

Don't think this is the Elbe river. It's more likely the river Rhine at it's final part in the Netherlands before it flows into the North Sea. But anyway, this is really fun and fun to look at! Greetings from Berlin, Jan

Long term storage in the FL Keys

No, did only compare Marina Resort and Boatyard. My main problem is organizing the work to be done cause I am already back in Germany which I hope can better be managed by the Boatyard.

I know, but it was a question of time. Today she's going on the hard in Marathon. Thanks for the advice.

    Simrad NSS16 EVO2 with Simrad AP20

Yes, if you define a waypoint and start "go to" the AP20 will receive this waypoint and track it. But you need the Simrad Video/NMEA0183 cable to send/receive NMEA0183 information from/to the NSS Evo2. Also the Baud rate is allowed to be maximal 4,800 Baud!

    Simrad NSS16 EVO2 with Simrad AP20

The NSS Evo2 doesn't control the AP20, it only submits the actual waypoints (single or one after the other from a route) via NMEA0183 to the network where the AP20 does receive them. So definetly no bidirectional communication between both units:(

Long term storage in the FL Keys

Wilco! Just no WiFi cause anchored in front of Upper Matecumbe Key. Merry Christmas (it's a little different the weather compared to home)

    Simrad NSS16 EVO2 with Simrad AP20

The AP 20 tracks the routes/waypoints received from the NSS EVO2. As it should be.

Long term storage in the FL Keys

Booked in to Marathon Boatyard cause they have all technicians on site which is for me, being in Europe, better manageable. Thanks to all for the support and Merry Christmas.

Long term storage in the FL Keys

Hey all, we're going to leave our Dutch Steel Trawler (49') in the keys early January. Figured out the Catamaranboatyard in Key Largo. But this one doesn't have electricity, so keeping the batteries alive and the humidity out will be a challenge. Does anybody in the forum has any experiences...

    Simrad NSS16 EVO2 with Simrad AP20

Again thanks to all. NSS EVO2 and AP20 working together. AP is receiving the GPS signal and also tracking the routes/waypoints preciseley. @Rogerh: Sorry, but in this case I'm going to keep the AP control heads.

    Simrad NSS16 EVO2 with Simrad AP20

Rogerh, will do this if I'm going to switch to AC42. @Catalinajack: System on my boat is working very well with two steering positions and also indicates rudder position on both units. So seems indeed a settings problem.

Thanks guys, You've been very helpful. Will pick up unit tomorrow in Savannah an then starting installation.

    Simrad NSS16 EVO2 with Simrad AP20

But if I install AC42 can I use all other equipment as compass, rudder feedback, etc. ? Have got three AP20 control heads. They would sell on Ebay for approximately more than a new AC42 and AP28 control will cost. Or does my RFC35 not work with the AC42?

    Simrad NSS16 EVO2 with Simrad AP20

Means that I've to keep the old control heads? But steering with the NSS will be possible in parallel or not?

    Simrad NSS16 EVO2 with Simrad AP20

Sounds good. Is the AP20 only getting the GPS information or can it be controlled via NMEA0183 and the NSS EVO?
