Getting her convinced to go slow...

I’m far from a mechanic but my understanding is not so much the speed of the boat but rather the rated rpm’s for cruising speed. I don’t think there is much difference in engine wear for a boat that cruises at 8 knots or 16 knots. If it required the fast boat to achieve the 16 knots at wot then...

Getting her convinced to go slow...

A boat that cruises twice as fast as another boat covering the same distance will have 1/2 the total hours on the engine then the slower boat. Think resale?

    How do you handle/prevent seasickness?

If right handed put ear plug in left ear, if left handed put ear plug in right ear.

    Stabilizers

Here’s a good read fin vs gyro: http://www.jimmyrogersyachtbroker.com/gyro-stabilizers-and-fin-stabilizers-what-you-need-to-know/

    Stabilizers

Somewhat familiar with the pros and cons of conventional vs the gyro stabilizers. Appears a severe following sea may be a pro got gyros and a con for the conventional. Not sure how the paravanes would fit in here.

    Stabilizers

To be honest as a learner I did not know there were more than two. Googled and found heave, sway, surge, roll, pitch and yaw.

    Stabilizers

“Ineffective” in the sense that they no longer work and might as well be turned off. PS I thought there were 6 motions of a boat?

    Stabilizers

For those that have stabilizers. At what point in sea conditions do stabilizers become ineffective?

    Boat buying blasphemy

In general I find that higher end boats are the heavier boats. Is there a correlation between how heavy a boat is and it’s seaworthiness?

    Hurricane Irma

I really don't get. I've been reading all the posts on finding a safe mooring or marina and how to secure your boat. The likely hood of Florida being hit has been known for days. These are avid boaters with a passion for cruising. Their boats are relatively new or older with a lot of work put...

    Bayliner 4588 prop turn direction

True or false, on a twin putting the starboard engine in reverse will pull the stern to port regardless if you have a clockwise or counterclockwise prop setup when in forward gear.

    Engine hours....

Ok so to add to my hypothetical an engine that can do 22 knots WOT but designed to cruise continuously between 8 and 17 knots.

    Engine hours....

You are offered a choice between 2 identical boats, one has 1,500 hours and the other 3,000 hours. Both maintained to the highest standards and priced about the same. The choice is obvious, but wait you just found out the higher hours boat routinely cruised at 8 knots, while the lower hours...

    Dog Darn It

I have a Maltese, about 12lbs. He is very protective of my wife if he never met you before. The difference between my dog and a pit bull is if he bites you, you will have a superficial wound, if a pit bull bites you well you know the answer.
