    Balmar Regulators

I have used Balmar regulators on every boat I have owned. Never had a failure. I think they are good solid investments. That being said, I see they are a little behind on the Lithium issue. I like the Wakespeed units. Heard lots of good things about them locally. I live in Seattle.

    Hydronic heating system install.

Having just installed a big Webasto system I found some of the REAL radiators put out to much heat and some put out to little. SURE marine can size the fan needed to your heat output. I changed three of my fans and got everything I wanted. Ten minute job to add a more powerful fan.

    Chevron Delo 400 lube oil

Thanks to all. I'm used to going to COSTCO and paying in the 40 buck range for a case of gallons. Spent a lot of time on the computer and WILLY was right, cheapest at Walmart and they deliver free. Bought 12 gallons to be delivered tomorrow. Bought some for next year's change also. Appreciate...

    Chevron Delo 400 lube oil

I have always been told use the manufactures recommended oil and never change it. The engines sort of get used to whatever you are using. My four years in the Coast Guard as a mechanic supported that also. I know times and lubrication guidelines have changed as we now have synthetic oil, and...

    Chevron Delo 400 lube oil

Been using Chevron Delo 400 Diesel oil forever. Best price in the Northwest has been at Costco. Costco does not carry Chevron anymore, the have changed to their own "Signature" brand. I hate changing brands as I have never had any issue with Chevron and the engine has used the same oil...

Over the Road Yacht Shipping From Seattle to Texas

Recently brought a 42 OA to Seattle from Galveston. Cost 32k to get it to Olympia then to Seattle on her own bottom. Used Boat Transport out of Marysville, Wa. They did have to cut a 12 inch piece from my upper helm. Boat was 15'8" from keel to top. Tacoma wanted 2500 dollar permit to truck...

    Thank you thank you thanks!

I know that boat, it was kept in La Conner for a long time. Met the owner several times. He may have been the original owner. The boat was kept up really well. Think he sold it two years ago.

    Tachometer not following directions

Filled with great information I will open the floorboards tomorrow and find that miserable probem with my new found knowledge. Thanks guys for all you guidance. Having a great dinner tonight of fresh Dungeness crab, french bread and a small oak finished white libation.

    Tachometer not following directions

Going to the boat tomorrow, I will pull one of the tach's and take a picture. I'm wondering if the battery charger on the inverter is putting out a higher voltage than the regulator likes and shuts down turning the tach off? Just another thought. Don't think the voltage is adjustable on the...

    Tachometer not following directions

The difference seems to be the sensor. The Cummins uses a magnetic sensor on the flywheel and yours uses the alternator. Mine runs fine as long as you don't have more than normal float voltage on the batteries. If the inverter/ battery charger is involved, the tach quits. I have ample output...

    Tachometer not following directions

So I retired and now I have lots of time on the boat. Wife likes it quiet at home so I am often asked to leave. Lucky me, I can go to the boat. It's given me some time to look at a problem I have had for a long time. The starboard tach. Ocean Alexander 38 twin Cummins 5.9's. Magnetic tach...

    Sight glass

I bow to the gentleman with the toothbrush cleaned bilge. A thing of beauty. My sight glasses are glass tubes. I'm thinking the Captain with the white reflective tape might have the winner for me. My glasses are in a corner where there is little light. Adding reflective tape behind and...

    Sight glass

My son works at Home Depot for the summer. They had a demo this week on a product called "Never Wet" and it made by Rustoluem. It's the wildest repellant I've ever seen. Repels everything. I've been looking for a reason to buy the stuff, think I will spray it on a corkie and drop it in the...

    Sight glass

Ya, that's sorta where I was going. My glass tubes are 1/2 to 3/4 inch so the corkie would fit. Wonder what the red diesel will do the plastic float? I'm thinking they make cork corkies also. Seems redundant.

    Sight glass

I'm getting old and can't see as well as I used to, especially in the bilge. I have sight glasses back in the corner(s) of my 38 OA trawler. Can't see where the fuel is in the glasses. Is there anything one can float on the top of the fuel in the sight glass to make it easier to see the fuel...

    Watermaker wanted

Going to Alaska next summer and need a watermaker for my 38 Ocean ALexander.* Fuel is not a problem going north but water is.* Twenty five years of cruising and my wife will not accept that there is a limit on water.* Training is not an option, she's Italian.* So, I am looking for a used...
