Garmin or Simrad Don't make the ssme mistake I did

For those of you thinking about purchasing Simrad electronics, READ THIS. OK I had no choice but to upgrade my Simrad electronics on The Path a 2008 45' NW Trawler. I purchased her in December 2013 and eight (8) months later my main Simrad XC44 unit died, so now my Simrad on the bridge and my...

    Key Power Stabilizers

Thanks, I definitely agree. We are using Starlight Marine Services. They are a distributor and installer for Key Power. They also do the warranty work.

    Key Power Stabilizers

The Key Power stabilizers are made out of polyurethane which I believe is stronger and more durable than a fiberglass composite, which the others are made out of. I also believe they require less costly maintenance.

    Key Power Stabilizers

I have researched three stabilizer systems, Niad, TRAC, and Key Power. I decided on the Key Power system and was wondering if any of you out there have any experience with them? Thanks for your input.

    Exumas in June

I'm planning a thee month cruise to the Turks & Caicos from Palm Beach County in May and I'm planning to also cruise thru the Exumas. At this time I'm not sure when I'll be there. My last cruise to the Exumas was 18 years ago and it was pristine.

Hawks Cay Channel or Inside Route from Marathon to Miami?

Well, we ended up going the inside route instead of Hawks Channel. No problems with depths. There were some pretty anchorages and cool places to eat. We stopped at Hungry Tarpon & Lorelei's in Islamorada which I would recommend. Tailwinds, Capt Mike

Hawks Cay Channel or Inside Route from Marathon to Miami?

It's always prudent to get advice and suggestions from mariners that have recently cruised these waters, conditions are always changing. I have found the suggestions from the mariners of the Trawler Forum to be very helpful and informative. After I review all the charts, weather and information...

    Okeechobee Waterway

We had no problems with any current and we were towing an 18' Flats boat. We crossed on Sept 15 &16th. We did get some torrential rains but no problems at the locks. or currents. I hope you have a better weather window than we did. Have fun. Capt Mike

Hawks Cay Channel or Inside Route from Marathon to Miami?

Advice needed. Do you think we could take the inland route from Marathon in the keys to Miami with our 4.5ft draft towing a Flats boat or is that a real bad idea? Or should we take the rougher Hawks Cay Channel route with this crazy weather? Thanks for your opinion.

    Towing a skiff

Thanks Doug. I'll work on putting that advice into action this week. Our 2 week plan is to fish around Charlotte Harbor, the Everglades and the Keys on the way back. Hope to see you out there. Tailwinds, Capt Mike

    Towing a skiff

:) That sounds like a good plan. I have an 18' Egret that I'll be towing. Can you elaborate on the "I have a spindle spliced into the skiff end of the lines and use a big carabiner. A loop spliced in on the other end." If possible photos would be great. I appreciate your help.

We have an 18' skiff that we would like to tow behind our 45' Northwest Trawler. Any recommendation for length of tow line and bridal would be appreciated. Our plans are to depart from Jupiter, Fl in 2 weeks cross Okeechobee Waterway then come back around from the Florida Keys at the end if...

It looks like we'll be crossing lake Okeechobee towards the middle or end if September also. We're heading to the Everglades to do some fishing then we'll probably run back thru the Keys. Tailwinds, Capt Mike
