    What's your cruising speed.

We usually settle in on 6.5 knots with our highly overpowered 52 hp throttled back to warp factor 3 . . . though the vid shows higher. -- Edited by flagold on Thursday 22nd of December 2011 07:40:01 AM

4 Deer rescued at sea by Alaskan boater

Couldn't agree more - that was great and with a good ending.

    Oscillating Multitool uses

We used one to trim the edges (old flooring) off the hatches for our allure install. *They work, but sometimes are tedius and a plain old chisel worked faster.

Anybody ever seen another one of these aluminum tugs?

What a neat design, kind of like a grown up Murphy Alaskan Trader.

    Bicycles

*Agreed, a long hike with poorly bagged groceries is one of the ultimate pains. *Wally World, Home Depot, Lowe's etc., all stock folding handtrucks that work well for this purpose too as long as the one with big wheels is purchased.

    Need a Cleat

A page of links that might help: http://www.boat-links.com/linklists/boatlink-21.html If you can't find one, you might have to replace both sides to match and if so, you might look for a heavier cleat. Good luck!

twin vs. single engine rages on....

I'm in a 30+ year old boat now . . . (with 52 hp). I guess I'll need to enroll in Singles Anonymous for recovery.

Searching for a solid prairie trawler to buy

We bought ours off of Craigslist as well after searching a similar time for one. Yachtworld.com has 4 at the moment I believe. Best of luck finding a boat!

    Time for the next Improvement

We are about to install an Airhead/Natureshead (haven't completely decided which one as yet, leaning towards the Natureshead).

Well Built, Capable and Reasonably Priced Used Boats

*The Prairie line is a solid fg construction also (I read the Gulfstars were as well), they are very easy to maintain. *More info: "The Prairie Economical Trawler": [video=] and much more on the Prairie forum on this site. *Best wishes in finding a boat - great time to buy one!

The alternative composting toilet: http://www.natureshead.net/ (there's some big threads on the airhead/nature's head but in fact they're roughly the same, the two heads of the companies were at one time apparently partners that split up).

    new Prairie 29 owner

*Thanks for that info, Jack, makes us feel better about the decision to do it. * Another project we've done (in the last 2 weeks) is tackle the flooring in our Prairie:* [video=] I hope that goes through, we've tried to post it twice and get hung up in the spam filter. Thanks again, Matt...

I guess that includes me too, think I've said it before, but we're going to install a Nature's Head (Airhead similar) instead of trying to re-work the plumbing.

We are installing a Natures Head (similar to Airhead) in ours and eliminating discharge altogether.

    Just Bought a Prairie 29

You might want to pull up the engine hatch, measure the stringer to stringer width of the engine mounts and use that as your measurement for lift to hull width at the load bearing rails since those two stringers are the strongest point (I believe). Might take awhile but others will chime in too...

    The Perfect "Loop" Boat

OK, I'm a little biased, I'll admit that. *As a result of our trawler movies we get questions on "loop" boats quite often an I thought I'd post one of the replies: <h3...

Original windows on the trawler and replacing the salon door

We will be looking to replace some glass soon as well. Our salon windows were replaced with non-opening (if they ever did open) plates of safety glass by the previous owner. We'd like to get the names of the companies doing the quotes as well, since the rest will be replaced. We have the L...
