    Grand Banks purchase

I just bought an 82 Motoryacht, not sure if these issues still exist in 1992. 1. Fuel tanks, look all around and on top, rust is what you are looking for. There are several ways on my boat for water to get down on top of the tanks. 2. Teak decks can get leaky and cause underlying issues 3...

Water in Fuel took us down - Fuel Polishers

They did not BandB, The tank guys were convinced the water in our tanks was put there by accident. They also thought that it was just general inactivity of the tanks that lead to the sludge. The tank guys also commented on the use of additives and said if you use an additive that is a...

    Best Source for Dock Lines

Looking to replace all the dock lines on my 42 grand banks. Need about 300 feet of 5/8 " 3-strand twisted nylon. Looking online before I hit the stores and it appears that it not too easy to find. Anyone have any good sources or advice when replacing dock lines? Thanks Kurt

Water in Fuel took us down - Fuel Polishers

Update with Pictures of Tank Cleaning Well our tanks were cleaned, hopefully you can see the images. The STBD tank had some weird goo in it. Not sure what happened to that tank, but it is clean now. Final picture that is sort of black is the clean tank.

    Replaced fuel tanks

Great Post and thanks for the great pics, our boat (42' 1982 Grand Banks) is hold up in Charleston right now, tanks being opened and inspected today. Of course I hope our water intrusion was o-rings and seals, but planning for the worst. I talked to Vince and he quoted me around $22,000 to...

Thanks Bruce, I understand. Trying to get the boat home safely to VA. I think polishing would add to my comfort level until I get home.

Water in Fuel took us down - Fuel Polishers

    - Both tanks were filled at the same time. - Port tank has no water in it, stbd had 18 gallons of "old" rusty, dirty water. - Decks are questionable and I haven't checked the fills yet, not so easy on a GB42. Also, the full fills on our motoryacht are under a deck step, so not completely...

Water in Fuel took us down - Fuel Polishers

We have a 1982 Grand Banks with two 300 gallon fuel tanks. Today we shifted from Port to Stbd tank before leaving the dock. Ran for about an hour at the dock then got underway. Shortly after (about a mile out) both generator and Main engine shutdown. Investigation revealed water in all...

    Insurance Cost and Options

Thanks for all the input. I received quotes from 4 companies and by far the insurance thru BoatUS was the best deal. All were comparable in coverage. BoatUS policy has $3k per incident towing coverage thru TowBoat US which I thought was very nice.

    Single Engine Fuel System Operation

New to us GB 42 Hull 803, Single Lehman Diesel. Wondering what the recommended or pros/cons of operation off of ONE fuel tank at a time. Based on my research there is a shutoff for both tanks, but only one return to STBD tank from the engine. Seems the STBD tank would fill up if you are...

    Trip Planning Advice

Picking up our "new to us" Grand Banks 42 in Barefoot Marina, Myrtle Beach, SC May 19th. We are headed NORTH to Norfolk, VA ultimately. According to the chart, it is at ICW mile 354. The first day, my wife and I want to do like 50 miles to the North, so we will end up at mile 300 or so...

    Insurance Cost and Options

Looks like we are going to finally get our boat. 1982 Grand Banks. I am a USAA member and they don't do boat insurance so they farm it out to Markel Insurance. We were quoted $1600 per year for basic Protection and Indemnity and coverage for the appraised value of the boat (about 100k). We...
