    Steadying sail design/rigging?

I own an Albin 36 dual engine trawler. It came with a gaff-rig and a sail made of brown Dacron by Hood. I have played with it at anchor and underway. My observations based on experience: 1. It makes some small difference in a rolly anchorage. The gaff (the upper spar at the top of the sail)...

    Chart error St. Joseph. Michigan

I just noticed that Navionics chart doesn’t show either of the two lighthouses on the north breakwater of the channel leading into St. Joseph Michigan harbor. This could be deadly, especially in this high water year when the breakwater is slightly above water level, and especially to sailors...

    Backup cameras

We just bought this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LWJZLA3/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_.HxFCbAYQGN0V Mostly for engine room surveillance underway, but will install at least one camera outside facing aft.

    Friends say I'm an idiot

Who can put a price on good, clean, healthy, challenging, fun? Especially the kind you can share with family and friends? The kind you can go into as deeply or casually as you wish? A lifelong pursuit or something you do, say you did it, and give it up, and you’re better and wiser for having...

    Chicago and Bridge Clearance

So you went down Burn’s Ditch and got under the fixed bridge? Do you remember the height of that bridge? It isn’t shown on my chart.

    Hello

Hi James and Jill! We are also lifelong sailors who kept our Cape Dory 36 when we bought our Albin 36. Currently they are both here in St. Joseph, MI, but we’re thinking of leaving one up north (maybe Detour) for more cruising opportunities. I’m happy to talk with you about what we learned about...

Twin Ford Lehman 120hp diesels on Albin 36

So that would be about 3.7 gph. Thanks!

Twin Ford Lehman 120hp diesels on Albin 36

Can anyone give me a reliable figure of gallons per hour fuel usage at cruising speed (7 knots) for this configuration? I would be much obliged.

I just listened to a webinar by Great Lakes Cruising club on cruising Georgian Bay and the presenter said the Canadian authorities are strict about enforcing it.

    Dinghy Tow

I haven’t used it but I’m thinking it’s saving grace will be that there is very, very little in the water.

    Dinghy Tow

Anybody else have one of these? From Davron Marine Products. Davron Marine Products (Dinghy-Tow) Tows dinghy with stern first, out of water, dinghy bow in the water. Seems to work well, but I have very little experience with it.

    Twin engine controls

Seems like a more sensible way to do it. Do any of you have your twin engine controls set up like mine?

    I believe it is OEM.

    Outboard motor to/from dinghy hoist

I saw this pic on the web. It looks like a workable lift that would attach to our Albin 36 transom or swim step or taffrail (not sure which is best) to move outboard to/from dinghy. Anybody got one like it? Or a better idea?

    Twin engine controls

I got a very helpful reply from Jim at SeaStar Solutions (SeaStar Solutions || a global supplier of marine equipment for sports and leisure boats.). He said I can simply disconnect the cables at the controllers and reattach them as I desire, grouping shifters and throttles together, and...

    Twin engine controls

I’m not sure yet. I can give you a better opinion after our summer cruise. The little bit of harbor maneuvering I did since buying the boat has not revealed any liability with the way it is. But I was standing.

Yeah. I am a bit confused about whether a US boat needs to be equipped with things required in Canada but not in US. Like the axe. It looks like you need to have a Canadian operator's license if you are operating in Canadian waters for more than 45 days (which we plan to). I went ahead and did...
