Forgive the lack of electrical knowledge...

I see a lot of people saying they have 6V golf cart batteries...is there any advantage to using 6V over 12 V? I have access to quite a few good 12V batteries (deep cycle) and was planning on adding a few to the bank already in the boat for a 'buffer' of power...thoughts please ?

    Haul Out Frequency

Why are people so quick to attribute perfection to companies regarding the efficacy of their products ? Amateurs built the ark, professionals built the Titanic as they say...I have seen many, many things built by amateur 'engineers' that improved on the commercially available models...

I surmise (we havent even taken posession of her yet, that happens mid July - YEEHAH) but its a large open salon/galley/helm area and the forward vee berth (to be modded into a queen bed 'stateroom' type deal) that will need to be cooled. So, one main unit in the large area and perhaps a smaller...

We too are 'children of the night' however most of society expects us to be up and around during daylight... The better half does not deal well with heat or humidity despite being a native Texan so I will have to come up with some solid cooling or else...:whistling:

I wasnt thinking of said engine as an option in new boats, rather as a replacement for worn out existing engines...and I wouldnt call a motor capable of 400,000 towing miles as 'light duty'...

Thankyou for the info Gents, the trawler is 47ft long by 15'6" and I did a quick calculation that the internal cubes are 2100...we will be spending most of our time in the Gulf and when I gain skills, more tropical climes so an A/Cwill most likely be crucial to marital harmony...

    Solar Panels

FWIW, I work in the oilfield and solar panels / 12 volt batteries are used extensively for small pumps etc. 90% are Kyocera and appear extremely reliable. Could someone recommend a good source for eutectic refrigeration in the USA ? Trailblaza fridges were the ducks guts in Australia but I...

Greetings all, I am purchasing a converted shrimp trawler that currently doesn't have A/C. I have looked at units online that are both 'in roof' mounted, similar to RV's as well as ducted units mounted inside a cupboard or similar. Aside from the crappy looks of the roof mounted types, is there...

    Curious...

Is there a good reason people don't (or do they...?) look at putting a modern V8 turbo diesel engine, say out of a wrecked F 250 or similar sized truck...powerful, economical, reliable if maintained, light for its size...naturally 'marinized'....am I missing something Ladies and Gents ?
