    Near anchoring mishap in Montenegro

There was some tension on the anchor, although I could 'drag it' with the windlass. If I had let got the port line, I would not have been able to use the sbt line with a spring effect to get the boat off the rock. I had a nice angle on the port line that straightened out to create distance...

Aft Bunk Rebuild - Marine trader 34dc

Another update. Spent the day with the router, grinder and sander. Not fun as we all know! Also had a nice time in the shop making the boxes that have become the bunk extensions. It is dry fitted at the moment. Tomorrow I will take it all apart and coat the lot in epoxy.

    Near anchoring mishap in Montenegro

After getting away from the shore line, I immediately went over the side to take a look. Right on the corner where the transom meets hull chine, it has been ground down by maybe an inch deep and 3 or four across. So lucky that it was the toughest corner of the boat on the rock. I cant see any...

Rough Idle on Grand Banks Ford Lehmans

What's the oil pressure doing at low revs? Is it dropping? Does the engine also sound a bit rough? I have a similar issue on one of my volvo's. I believe it is a dirty injector that is causing the engine to only fire on 5 cylinders at low revs hence the extra vibration. With revs above 1000...

    Near anchoring mishap in Montenegro

I thought people might find it interesting to hear about a close call we had last weekend, how we got into it, and how we got out of it. It was my wife's birthday on Saturday and we had arranged to have a party at a local beach bar with a jetty that one can anchor off stern too, or 'Med'...

Building 72' schooner in Viet Nam

Interesting to find this thread here on the trawler forum!! The boat is being constructed using the same drawings as a schooner called "Tree of Life". I was lucky enough to Captain the the 'Tree' on a 3 1/2 year circumnavigation. Luc contacted me several times over the last few years to ask...

Aft Bunk Rebuild - Marine trader 34dc

A little update. Spent an hour on the boat this morning before work with the jigsaw rough cutting the hole for the bunk extension. Started by drilling a few pilot holes from the inside, then cutting along these holes from the laz'. Next is to clean up the edges with the router and a flush...

    Bbq,s

I am sure this thread is long over, and the bbq of choice has been purchased. I just want to use the thread to show off my new BBQ that was given to me by a boat who would have otherwise thrown it away! Bigger than I would have purchsed, but hey, it was free!

Aft Bunk Rebuild - Marine trader 34dc

Ok so I am about to embark on a reasonable size refit project. Not sure about every MT34dc out there, but on mine the aft bunks are only about 5'10" long. During the survey pre purchase, I checked out the possibility of extending the bunk into the Lazerete - which is possible - so now it is...

    Auto Pilot Problem

Thought I would post the fix. Turned out that the potentiometer was spinning with the rudder feedback arm on the feedback unit. All fixed now!

    Auto Pilot Problem

How's this for a theory. When engaging port helm, it appears as though the pump is doing what it should by bringing the rudder back from stb towards port, but does not go beyond midships. I think the pump is being assisted by the water pressure on the rudder, when it gets to midships, it cant...

    Auto Pilot Problem

Thanks for this advice. The pump is a continuous running type. And as I have seen the helms move when the a/p is operating, so maybe it is the non-return valve. Although, strangely it will engage port helm the bring the rudder back from full STB helm to midships. Once it gets to mid ships it...

    Auto Pilot Problem

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I dont have time to take a pic of the ram, but it is securely in place. As is the rudder feedback unit. Because the system is so old and does not have a visual rudder feedback display, I also have a secondary rudder feedback unit which runs to a rudder...

    Auto Pilot Problem

Hope this works. Love the forum, but hate the way adding pictures works!!!! unless I am doing it wrong. Anyway, here are a few pics of the set up. Great autopilot when it works, so solid. I agree that it might be air, I am now thinking it is an airlock in the system. There are no more leaks in...

    Auto Pilot Problem

Any ideas about this would be greatly appreciated. My MT 34 DC has what I assume to be the original autopilot that is 30+ years old, but is a very solid unit that I really dont want to have to replace. It consists of a control head with manual compass card dial where the course is dialed up...

    Adriatic Voyage and Delivery Home

Hi Richard, I don't really know a great deal about it other than what I experienced in the three visits whilst the boat was there. I didn't really look around much at the sights and it was out of season when I was there, but I can say the marina I found the boat in was very well organized...
