Thanks koliver... i'll also check this out... I was planning on a much less complicated install and i'm sure that a horn like this on my 13'Whaler would get attention... et

Thanks Steve... WM's horns are AFI (Taiwan) and their WM branded horns also are made in Taiwan... maybe someone has found a reasonable priced US made horn... thanks for your reply... Earl

    Replacing 34' Trawler horn

My 2005 34T Mainship has dual horns and the lower frequency horn is corroded beyond repair. Using the remaining horn, I squeak by sailboats and Norhavns when I overtake them... I've looked on line for a dual horn made in the US, but so far have only found auto/truck horns or horns like AFI...

    2004 Mainship 390 vs 2005 Mainship 34T

B & B... I have a 2005 34T and for the 2 of us, it's a perfect fit. Strong points are the engine room (ER) not being open to the salon... was in a 2004 40 and there was no escaping the diesel fumes from the ER - not so in the 34T. This arrangement cuts down on gen and engine noise. Perfect...

    Cleat Backer Plates

There are probably numerous indicents similiar to this... in the Captain's course, we saw video of ship's mooring lines that had parted... parting lines are known to have killed/injured sailors... the rule was to never be in line of a taunt halyard... never know what can happen on a boat..

    Cleat Backer Plates

OUCH... could be a very serious injury... preventable in most cases....

    Cleat Backer Plates

You'd think that something so obvious would be done in production and what little extra cost there was, the buyer would gladly pay. I think that most boat owners spend a great deal of time improving what they started with - I know I'm pleased to have made this improvement and it's only the...

    Cleat Backer Plates

Roger Craig... from the google hits i read - no one make or model had this happen... happened across the spectum of boats.... just a matter of how severe the strain was... mine now should have many times the holding strength than OEM... Earl

    Cleat Backer Plates

Thanks Marin... what I have now is better than OEM, and it wouldn't be difficult to swap out the 2" wide plates and install larger ones. Your arrangement sounds solid. From all the ripped out cleat stories I read when I googled this, it can easily happen, and it'll happen at the worst time...

    Cleat Backer Plates

Good point Jeff... i can lower the plates and add a plywood plate.. thanks,

    Cleat Backer Plates

Agree... a few bucks in production could make the difference between a failure and a non failure... in googling "cleats ripped out" there are many other brands that have had cleats ripped out - just depends on the incident - even these would rip out under severe conditions... but, I feel like...

    Cleat Backer Plates

Just out of curiosity, I wondered how secure the bow cleats on were my 2005 34’ Mainship trawler since I get a lot of wind and wave action here. I googled “ripped out cleats” and got thousands of hits so this isn’t an unheard of event. I thought I’d find reinforcement under the cleats, but as...

    Great Marina in St Augustine

My Waterway Guide for 2012 shows the marina to be Rivers Edge... not sure about any previous names.... Paul could answer that question.. Earl

    Great Marina in St Augustine

Don't know much about other marinas near St A but Rivers Edge was $1.50/foot. Rivers Edge wasn't plush - no spa or boutique, but convenient considering the weather. Paul (Dock Master) couldn't have been more accomodating. We toured Flagler College - very nice... would be a fun place to be a...

    Great Marina in St Augustine

Correct Don... a break water is under construction and it was calm inside, but still a howling wind... just didn't want to take that on if I didn't have to, and sure didn't want to be part of the "entertainment" entering the marina... the San Sebastian River was flat and maneuver was easy...

    Great Marina in St Augustine

Thanks for the photo Don... this is exactly what we wanted to avoid. Sooner or later, we won't have the option of a calm mooring, but less wind was preferred and Rivers Edge offered that as well as easy access to St Augustine. Earl

    Great Marina in St Augustine

We saw the Marina from shore - nice marina, nice facilities, nice close restaurants and that day/night, we were happy to be in a calm mooring. Just one of those times when wind was particuilarly nasty... and being at a calm mooring was preferred... we'll get enough of the storm moorings in...

    Great Marina in St Augustine

Vicky had the oysters... the old saying about oysters isn't completely true... I had a dozen one evening, and only 11 of them worked...

    Great Marina in St Augustine

Vicky and I (34'Mainship Trawler) were going to overnight at Municipal Marina in St Augustine until another boater told us about high winds and white caps at the marina. He suggested we try Rivers Edge Marine which is about 1.4 miles up the San Sebastian river just south of St. A. I called...
