Just want everyone out there in Forum Land following this thread to remeber that I will not be crossing oceans alone. I won't even be crossing my harbor alone or pulling out of my slip alone for a very long time. I will have lots of training and captained trips for a few years.

    Title question

These days, good contractors are hard too find. Sometimes I think it's more luck than skill... A marine architect to supervise might be a great idea.

Chris, I'm fairly sure that I have seen EVERY power trawler on yachtworld :), with the exception of the too small for me ones. The boat in Ct is not an ocean crosser, so it's no good for me. It kind of looks like a houseboat, not very seaworthy, but what do I know. The boat in Annapolis...

    Title question

Yes, westwinds I am in real estate, and development/construction at that, but, I know nothing of boat construction. I have heard so many speak of "house electricians" pretending to know marine electrics. I would be very nervouse about hiring my house electrician to work on my boat. But, I...

Pit stop in Hawaii? That implies cruising the boat across the Pacific from Asia. I would LOVE to do it. The time is tough though. I could set aside 2 months to get it home, but 4 months might be pushing it with kids and school.

Peter, I can understand what your saying about not everyone has been following my posts. I figured if I was to post a question and someone were to be curious or would like more info before responding then they should politely ask for more info and I would gladely oblige. I would hope that folks...

    Title question

Sure did. Thanks for the info. Seems they also have a convertor. I have no clue how to know which company is best. Not even sure now if I should order it myself and get someone to install it or let them order it. Maybe I will call tomorrow and compare prices.

    Title question

Ok, I googled it. It is a convertor. Did they tell you the price of this one? It says that it has a built in isolation transformer. Are you an electrician by trade?

    Title question

Thank you very much for getting this info for me!!! Is this device also a convertor? Is it less expensive than the Aspea? I think the guy that I spoke to said that the convertor price is $22k. Are you saying that it is really only $5450 because that would be a huge markup. Is Visecomm...

Understood. I was just toying with the idea and trying to get info while weighing my options to decide if I should further consider. Clarification: When I said that a good captain could help with the planing aspect I didn't mean on this forum, I just meant that if I decided to go the delivery...

No. I havn't, but I think you may have missed earlier posts where I explained that I plan on using the boat as a liveaboard and hiring a captain to teach me for a few years. I may be adventurous and determined but not stupid or crazy and I would never put my kids in jeopardy.

I can certainly appreciate your concern and the sentiment of experience. I do not plan to operate this boat myself. The plan is to hire a captain for the first 2-3 years at least. I will train and take plenty of courses for a long while until I feel consciously and unconsciously competent...

Thanks for the info. I had actually spoken to them. You reminded me. I was supposed to get back to them with the height of the vessel and I had forgoten. I think I will ring them tomorrow and get their quote, especially since the 2 quotes that I have are so far apart. It would be nice to...

Good info. Thanks. That was one of my concerns also, the weather may interfere with my timing.

Thanks for the time estimate. Your right, I would have to get the electric straightened out first. That might be an added hassle.

Yes it was helpful. Thank you. I guess I was hoping that a good captain could help with the planning aspect. I may end sticking to plan A, which was to ship her from Asia to Boston, but I wanted to weigh my options.

In response to a private message that I recieved, and some of your thread replies: I'm sorry that my questions are viewed as offensive and troll like to some. Many of you that have been talking to me both here and on Cruisers know my history from the beginning so I didn't feel the need to...

What do you think about this draft?

    Good answer.

    Travel Time

Anyone have a good idea of how long it would take in a 7-10 knot trawler to travel from California via the Canal to New England, without stopping for very long in any one place, except to stock up and wait for weather?

    Title question

27 grand is high, but at least I would be able to use shore power anywhere at that point.
  24. G

    Anyone heard any more?

    Wow, what an erie story.
  25. G

What do you think about this draft?

Looks like a very nice boat Chris. Problem is, with 5 kids, I would need a bit more space.
