What do you think about this draft?

It's on my radar, but I still have time to change my mind. Exploring other options closer to home.

What do you think about this draft?

Yeah, I'm the furthest person here with any knowledge at all, but what your saying makes sense. That draft seemed very shallow compared to other boats I have seen that I know are good sea crossers. It is a big coastline. Is it possible to get to Europe via coastline from the US through...

What do you think about this draft?

Great harbour GH47. Very shallow draft, the company says it's a world traveler. What do you guys think of ocean crossings with this draft? Anyone out there own one of these...

    Title question

Sorry Phil, wasn't holding out, just trying to avoid such a "heated" topic. I spoke to a very experienced marine electrician in Florida. (The New Englanders didn't have a clue.) He said that there are 2 ways of dealing with it. 1. Change out all the equipment and appliances etc. to 60hz...

    Title question

Awesome info from everyone!!! Geez, I had no idea that there were title companies for boats. I actually spoke with a buyer's broker today. I will call Pacific Maritime tomorrow and see if they can do an international transaction, and, if not, maybe they can recommend another company. Thanks...

    Title question

Hello all, I have finally gotten the answer that I needed to sort out the power issue, thanks to whomever it was that suggested that I speak with an electrician in Florida. Smart idea. That did it. Now I am on to the next learning piece. Can someone explain to me me if boats are like cars...

    POWER Question!!!

Yeah, I just googled that Rick. It said exactly that, transformers don't function as a frequency converter. I think your right. So, you are also suggesting that I could plug the boat into the 60hz here and it would be fine. Do I have that right?

    POWER Question!!!

hmmmm....that seems easy. This is the transformer currently on the boat: 10KW toriodal isolation transformer. So, will the transformer change the power from 50hz to 60hz as needed, depending on where you cruise?

    POWER Question!!!

Thank You Phil!! I always say that folks that don't believe that they can do something themselves, don't believe that others should do it either. Just because it isn't done the way you think it should be done, doesn't make it wrong. The world is full of of a lot of different people that...

    POWER Question!!!

It is a lot of different information. I really like Insequen's posts. It seems that he has a very good handle on international modification, especially since he is actually doing one himself right now. I am still a bit confused as to wether or not I can plug this 220v 50hv boat into a 220v...

    POWER Question!!!

Hello all, I am in the process of purchasing a 55' trawler. It runs on 220/240 power. The seller (who does not live in the states) seems to think that most marinas offer 110 service. (By the way, the boat was not built in the US.) I was wondering if someone here may know if this type of...

Anyone know the range of the Hatteras 58'?

ok, but if I run the MY slowly can I still achieve the gallon per hr or is that not possible because of the hull shape?
  13. G

Anyone know the range of the Hatteras 58'?

George, You have a Hat, help me out here please. I am sooo confused. Does your boat have a max speed of something like 19 knots? Are you still able to run it slow at 8 knots and end up with a gallon per hr? I just don't understand the difference in the LRC's that max at something like 10...

Anyone Cruised from New England to Caribbean???

Can you tell me a little about your experience? Specifically, how long did the one way trip take? What kind of boat? Did you anchor or do marinas, etc.? I'm no where ready for a trip like this yet, but I'm just thinking ahead, while boat hunting. Thanks.

Anyone know the range of the Hatteras 58'?

I guess I was confused. I didn't realize the longest leg between fuel spots was only 240 miles. So, that's great then, 700 mile range would be fine. Thanks everyone for clarifying. Has anyone done the run. How long did you take? Where did you go? Where did you love? Is fuel more expensive?

Anyone know the range of the Hatteras 58'?

It's actually not the LRC model. I was looking at 3 or 4 on Yachtworld. Most of them have 775 gallons of fuel. I'm gussing this must be standard. One of them said it burns 10 gallons at 9 knots, so I figured that was pretty great. Another didn't state fuel burn, but it did say cruise is 17...

Anyone know the range of the Hatteras 58'?

It has a 775 gallon tank. Trying to figure out if it has the range for the Carribean run? Tried googling, found nothing. Thanks.

    Winter Liveabaords???

Awesome pics!!! Thanks!!! Always nice to have a visual. Also, great info. Do all of the other liveaboards at your marina do the same thing with the water line?

    Winter Liveabaords???

What is a "sea water line"? and how does it burst?

    Winter Liveabaords???

Is that called radiant heat? Do you know if it is the same radiant heat used in homes or is there a marine grade? Am I correct in thinking that insulation is something that can only be done while doing a major rebuild?. Is it possible to take a good condition boat and insulate it or would...

    Passagemaking question???

He was referring to some folks that he knows. Their 16 year old has been doing an ongoing blog of their families travels since she was 12, which I am now following. The blog is intriguing to me because my youngest should be a full time cruiser by the time he turns about 9, so I love to see the...

    Passagemaking question???

YES!!! Sounds amazing. Can't wait for the day when I can cruise Europe on my own boat. May take me a few years, and maybe some blood, sweat and tears to get there, but I know for certain it will be a million times worth the wait.

    Passagemaking question???

Thanks for all the informative responses. Anyone here have a Hat LRC that has crossed? I am reading conflicting opinions as to weather the 65' Hat was built for transatlantic or not. How long do you figure a trawler would take to cross?
