    Yanmar - Mobil 1 Synthetic

If I wanted to put oil on my anchor to make it slide into the bottom easier and keep it from rusting which brand would be best?

How do you get a boat back from out of state?

Uggggg. suddenly being old and semi-retired isn't so bad. 35 years almost seems like a life sentence.

    Experiences with Copper Coat?

It's not just about cleaning. If you want something that never needs cleaning keep dreaming. It is about not having to do a bottom job every other year. If they came up with something that never needed cleaning you would be out of a job.

    Experiences with Copper Coat?

We applied Coppercoat 13 months ago. So far we are pleased. We spent the first 10 months after application in Boot Key Harbor, which is the worst place I have seen for fouling. We would still get slim on the bottom, but not barnacles. You could just scrap it right off with a plastic putty knife...

    Cleaning the Hull

If I do not plan on moving the boat for a month or more I take two inflatable balls and put one in each side of the bow thruster to keep it clean.

    Kemah, Florida and beyond

We usually run the outside from Destin to Panama City and then the ICW from PC to Apalachicola. That is a very pretty part of the ICW and about the only part of the ICW I truly enjoy.

    tach

Yes it clamps onto one of the injector lines and counts the pulses. Works great.

    tach

We use on of these and love it. More accurate and easy to install. Can be bought for $100. http://tinytach.com/diesel.php

Leaving the Keys, Headed for Houston

Speaking of rpms, it is both interesting and frustrating to me of how this works. The situation is this. We come up behind a barge running 4.9 nmph. We are running 5.8 at 1540 rpms. So we have a choice to overtake or just back off the throttle and stay behind him. If we back off we are running...

Leaving the Keys, Headed for Houston

We normally run between 1450 and 1550, but in the GIWW we had to set our rpm to the situation we found ourselves in. Sometimes behind a barge that we could not pass we would run at 1250. Sometimes after passing a barge we would have to run 1750 to 1850 for several hours to get comfortably ahead...

I will keep an eye out for you. We are on J1. We are leaving today for a week or two to visit family up north brrrr. Probably see you when we get back.

Yes on a single FL 120. According to the GPS our moving average was 5.5 nmph, some of the engine hours were warm up and anchoring. Our numbers were better before we got into New Orleans. In open water we were averaging 6 nmph at 1.4 gph. Once in the ditch we had current that sometimes helped and...

    question: fuel filter vacuum gauge

I can't imagine not having one. I transfer fuel back and forth between tanks through a 2 micron filter to make sure it is clean. With a new filter the gauge reads 2. I change it when it gets up to 10, does not happen very often. On the trip we just took I would open the hatch while underway and...

    Living while "on the dry"

We hauled out last year for 5 weeks. We lived aboard without any issues. We used a window AC in a hatch and bought a port-a-potty for at night use.

Leaving the Keys, Headed for Houston

We made it to Clear Lake yesterday. It was a good trip. The last 10 to 15 miles of the GIWW were the toughest though. More tows than anyone would want to deal with. The run up the bay was very choppy. As we were coming into the entrance to Clear Lake we saw a power boat coming out. I said to my...

    Anchor setting Videos

Panope, Thanks so much for sharing. I have wished for a long time anchor companies would do this rather than wasting our time with dragging anchors on a beach with a pickup truck. Nothing beats real world environment tests. I wish you were closer I would lend you my Sarca. Thanks again!

Leaving the Keys, Headed for Houston

We have been anchored in an ox bow just off the Calcasieu River since Saturday night. We saw the wind predicted that we are now getting and decided to ride it out here in a nice anchorage rather than getting it while anchored in a small canal somewhere. I am glad we did as it has really been...

    What would you do?

Mark I did not say we were anchored in the channel. I said we were anchored in an ox bow OFF the channel. We do not anchor in navigational channels. I don't know anyone who would.

    Better water flow reshaping

That would be my thought. Instead of cutting up the boat, just get a longer shaft.
  23. READY2GO

    What would you do?

We are in 12' of water. The forecast for tomorrow evening is 25 to 30 knots out of the south. Even if we had 3:1 out the first pass would have been real close if not over it. What frustrates me is the ox bow is probably 1000' wide, no need to get that close.
  24. READY2GO

    What would you do?

We are anchored in an ox bow off a main channel with 100' of chain out and this guy drags his net over our rode and anchor 3 times. It did not foul and who knows maybe there is not much chance of it doing so. I have never used a net so I did not know how they are configured. I did not say...
