Extractor tube broke off in oil pan!

You don't normally hook a hose to the dipstick tube. You normally insert a hose inside the dipstick tube and slide it down to the bottom of the pan. It would not make sense for the DS tube to go to the bottom of the pan. If it did you probably would not get an accurate reading on the dipstick...

Extractor tube broke off in oil pan!

I doubt you will get much oil out that way as I doubt the tube goes to the bottom of the pan. Before I installed an oil change kit I used to pump it out through the dipstick tube, but I had a piece of copper tubing that the pump hose attached to. The copper tubing is what entered the dipstick...

They made lots of 25s. It was a popular model. I walked around Marina Del Rey the other day and saw two of them.

Welcome Bryan. We lived aboard a 25' Coronado sailboat before crossing over to the dark side. Quite a change. You will love it.

It this nuts? Or is it just me?

I just wish I could get my Garmin depth sounder to work when I need it. It will work fine if the depth is 12' or more. Drop to 11' or less and it just blinks. I tried adjusting every setting I could find with no luck. I called Garmin and talked to a tech he told me a couple of adjustments to...

    12 v Water Maker Recommendation

Spectra is expensive, but I believe their claim to fame is that they are energy efficient. The model you mention makes 6 gph consuming only 9 amps at 12 volts. If you don’t want to run the genny then that is important. If you are going to run the genny anyway then AC is the way to go in my book.

    12 v Water Maker Recommendation

Kevin, It may have been awhiled since you priced watermakers. The Katadyn 1.5 gph (36gpd) is $3,695.00 at Defender. The 3gph (72 gpd) is $4,695.00. Watermakers have gone up alot.

    Repowering with a Tractor Motor

David, this post is a little confusing to me in that I have an MT 36 with a rudder that is made of 1/4" stainless plate. During our last haulout I removed all paint down to the bare metal. It and the welds still looked like new. I presume that it is the original rudder but I do not know that for...

Janice, Do you have a drawing showing the flow of water i.e. what hoses run to where? I attempted a guess in post #142.

    Heading for the Keys

"If this storm decides to come our way where do I go to ride it out ? I have a slip at the Key West Bight Marina starting on the 15th." Go to Marathon. Boot Key Harbor is very protected and the moorings are rated to Cat 3.

    Repowering with a Tractor Motor

I may be off base hear but I seem to remember Janice talking about heating water for cabin heat and for the water heater. If this is what it is for it may not be part of the engine cooling system. She has a heat exchanger for the fresh water engine cooling system. I can see how if you connected...

    Repowering with a Tractor Motor

Janice, My hats off to you for two reasons. 1. The fact that you would undertake such a project. Most women and many men would not take on such a project. 2. Your willingness to share the good, the bad, and the ugly of the project here on the forum. This forum can not discuss something as...

Fortunely we have not been charged for the length of the davits, but we always ask first how the charges are calculated. If a marina or yard wants to charge extra we keep looking. So far not a problem, but I imagine in some areas that it could be. We did tow a dink for 2100 miles with our...

True, but that is not really a problem for us as 99% of the time we are on a mooring or anchor. The one year that we did spend a lot of time at a marina we would always pull bow in so when setting on the flybridge we were looking out away from the dock. Our biggest problem with marinas other...

The other thing I like about the setup is that the RIB has a drain in the transom so no having to bail out the dingy.

This is my choice. I may be biased though. I like things on boats to do double duty. In this case triple duty. The davits hold the solar panels, the kayak, and the RIB.

    Traveling without a dinghy

We always carry a dingy. The one trip I made without one it was sorely missed. Any boat can carry a dingy even it you have to spring a couple of grand for custom davits. Worth every penny in my opinion. I would not want to have to pay for a marina every time I wanted to get off the boat. But...

    Fuel tank dilemma, help please

ragin cajun Please post pics of the project as it happens so we can learn something. My biggist worry about the process is how can they glass the inside of the hull. Maybe (probably) they know some tricks that I do not.
