    ZF85A Fluid Results from Survey

Just got more info: The mechanic and he were inspecting the fluid in New Jersey on the Loop running up from Georgia. The mechanic couldn't get the filter cover back on due to lack of knowledge. The ZF cooling hose above the ZF was off and dripped seawater into the ZF. The cover was eventually...

    ZF85A Fluid Results from Survey

Seller states the cover was off to change the transmission filter. While the cover was off for several days, water entered the transmission from a hose (I think). He states this is the source of the water and sodium. Seller is going to have a mechanic change the fluid and filter. I hope to...

    ZF85A Fluid Results from Survey

Seller states the transmission cover was off and some water and likely salt got washed in. He is amenable to changing fluid and filter and holding back in case there are issues with it.

    ZF85A Fluid Results from Survey

Got the results back and the tranny has elevated water, sodium, iron, lead and copper among other things. Mechanic recommends changing ATF and fluid/filter and running it for 20 hours and resampling. I would like to complete purchase of the MS 400 now. I doubt the owner will have time to put...

ZF tranny fluid change and impeller changes

I am just waiting on the results of the fluid analysis for the yanmar 380 horsepower and Kohler 9 kW generator and transmission. However if I buy the boat I am going to want to change the transmission fluid since it has 500 hours on it, and both impellers. I have searched for videos and...

MS 400 Yanmar Mounts and Mag Anodes

I am getting the survey done on Friday for my (hopefully) new 2008 MS 400. The single Yanmar 380HP has about 1200 hours. The Yanmar 6LY3-UTP manual indicates flexible engine mounts are to be replaced every 1000 hours or every four years. Is this really necessary? Also, the boat has been...

    New wifi system

Wifi Hi Martin, I recently purchased a small router, it connects to either marina, Wi-Fi, cellular phone connected through USB cable, or USB cellular modem. I have only tested it in my house so far as my boat is currently stored for the winter. There is no limit to the number of devices...

    New wifi system

Lots of options Martin- When I get my new trawler in April I am installing a device that can setup a wired and wireless network on the boat. It's basically your own private router that can use either marina wi-fi, your cell phone tethered with USB or a celullar modem as your Internet...

Accepted offer...getting excited for my Mainship 400!

Great discussion on the gyros. Since we spec a couple of diff manufacturers on our motoryacht drawings, maybe I can get a discount on the hardware down the road. I modelled a SK in 3D, it was fun spinning it around on the screen before placing it on the custom mounting bracket. Real easy...

Thanks so much Doug for your valuable thoughts. I will have more questions in the near future. My wife and I charted a 400 for a week on Pine Island sound and I knew it was the boat for us! We also chartered a 390 in the North Channel for a week before that and I knew then that it needed both...

Thanks Pete, I will know on my run from Chicago to Port if a gyro is necessary. Less for me, more for my mate!

    Northern Loop this spring

Port Washington Marina opens April 1st. Not sure about the rest of them. I am running up from the Mississippi through Chicago out on the Lake in early May. Stopping in Racine for decking, RIB and transom art. Should be just fine if you watch the weather!
