The Old Fishboat Conversion Invader No 1

Tony B Shelf plank construction is a technique the Kishi Boat Works brought to Canada back in the early 1900's. The wood boat is built in a frame, a mold kinda. The planks are bent and pounded onto the frame as the boat sits on its keel. They lay in the "planks" nail them into the "mold"...

    Teak bungs black marks

Alberto, the black on the teak around the bungs is from water penetration, usually from water ingress through the finish. Its a sign of something needed to be sealed up. You can try and "bleach" the wood back for color but the black is telling of water penetration. Needs to be sealed. IMO. SS is...

The Old Fishboat Conversion Invader No 1

Haul out 2014 pictures continued So seven days on the hard, in the rain, the wind, the cold. Not the best time but the only time I had to get the week for the work. All done by my better half and I. Yet I do love the "work". Any way just sharing a few pics of the 5 year project that's going on...

The Old Fishboat Conversion Invader No 1

Haul out 2014 . 15 years down the road on the old fishboat. Survey no 4 with the last three for insurance. One of the only boats I know of where I owe the old girl, she owes me nothing. Just sayin. Mind you like most old girls she looks better after a few beers but man ya just have to love a...

67' Boat Sinks in Straights of San Juan De Fuca

Cracked probably, then add in some fastener's beside existing and loaded incorrectly onto a travel lift. The travel lift can be the demise of a lot of old wood boats IMO. The old girls like a keel lift, on there back so ta speak. I just doubt its one issue, more likely a combination of...

67' Boat Sinks in Straights of San Juan De Fuca

Scary Yup that be kind of my point. You can not simply state that a wood boat needs to be refastened after say 20 years. That's not a complete picture in any way shape or form. Old boats are old boats with a host of items and usually issues that should be looked at. Hull material is just...

67' Boat Sinks in Straights of San Juan De Fuca

Fasteners are just a piece of a very large puzzle. Design, materials, method of construction, intend use play a much larger roll than just fasteners Light builds like a Crispy Craft are different than say a heavy commercial build that ends in a much stiffer boat. As an example. You can not...

    Orcas in the San Juan's?

Eric you do not truly believe if we humans kill off Orca there will end up being more salmon ? I do agree that when we kill off the wolf , the tiger, the bears we will be left eating ants, probably flying fire ants at that. Using salmon as an example its humans that have devastated there...

Gov. Brown signs boating safety law

Yes and no. There is a ton of motivation to collect tax on that 45 foot twin powered yacht, even with the knowledge that the guy making the purchase has zero experience running it. That card is not addressing this issue. Again just random thoughts. Like you I live aboard and run around...

Gov. Brown signs boating safety law

Ron I guess my point is that the card is not addressing the actual handling of a boat. The card is not addressing the types of vessel one is "qualified" to run. Its kinda scary seeing a 45' 450 HP twin engine cruiser running up behind you in close quarters , knowing full well the guy behind the...

Gov. Brown signs boating safety law

Honestly Ron what part of "card" ownership will keep the usual two, three, four, six time offender from operating a boat. Guys remember the stats collected will never represent that part of the story. Fines ? they don't care, courts with loss of freedoms for the convicted for driving with out...

    Steel jon boat for dinghy?

12 feet , easy tow, unsinkable, tough and easy to fix on the fly. I still really love my daily driver the 12 T Livingston. Put it on the dock last April. Rolled it over for a look after 8 years in the water. Ya it had a hole in the bottom I had made a quick fix on the beach. Found three...

Its an honest try, maybe it might even keep a few folk from getting into the "sport" But we have had the PCOC here in BC for a while. I am not seeing any benefit on the water ways I live on, play on, and work on. More recently the fellow that now teaches the Fraser power squadron is not...
