From the TSB report History of the Voyage The North Arm Venture departed Vancouver, British Columbia, on 17 July 2009, bound for a number of locations. On 18 July 2009, the North Arm Venture left Toba Inlet, British Columbia, at 2100. 3 The tug, with a crew of four, wastowing the barge North...

Yup I would buy this statement. For some monitoring AIS is an option. For some of us monitoring the traffic channel for the area can really pay off.

That's a great example of why we should monitor our radios. Tugs and tows verses pleasure boats can sure make stuff exciting.. Pulling boats of of log booms, who knew that could be a skill set.

Yup . I know this thread , beside the pee, has allot of gold within. Good thoughts for that what the **** if deal. Trawler forum rocks ! Sure 99.99 percent of us ever experience such , but having some knowledge in the memory banks from where ever just might help. No ? Yes ? Quote Since I...

    Midnight Re-boarding, can you? Alone

Again I am missing my mark in this thread. Sorry if any one took my comment to imply " don't wear a PFD ". My written word sucks but a PFD can bring a different or unexpected problem to falling in when a current is involved. My hope is to simple prepare folk as best I can on a forum of what...

    Midnight Re-boarding, can you? Alone

The PFD adds a whole new level to the game in a current. Alot of folk will not be able to pull a swimmer that's wearing a pfd against even a small current Much like trying to pull a sea anchor. YMMV

How much do you use your boat?

Not since November of 2014. I guess that's going to happen over the decades of living on board. But it sucks IMO. I expect 2016 will be much unsucky. However I did a ton of boat camping in the little boat. I enjoyed that, alot.

https://youtu.be/puvekp3l9hc Something I saw at the boat show. S.O.S marine ladder. To me there seems to be some value in something like this. I like a side re-board option, along with a tool that gives a couple of recovery options. cheers

    Stern anchor/shore Tie line

Over the past couple of decades I can't remember having to use a big old live tree for a stern line. Sure enough that big old tree sticks out. BUT The actual loads on the stern line simply do not require it. Just be careful of looping a stern line around that big old log up on the beach Yup...

    Stern anchor/shore Tie line

I use 1/4 inch poly 3 braid. Carry a couple thousand feet. Personally I choose the stern tie as the week link. Forgivable in a pinch. I like to cruise remote areas and anchor / lock the boat down where most will not. In a protected anchorage one most use as a destination, I use different set...

    Wet vs dry exhaust

Love my dry stack , Keel cooled set up. Tractor engine on frames dropped into a boat. The DD is in a garage when not in use. Build the exhaust , insolate it, bolt the cooler to the bottom of the boat and its a done deal. WHATS NOT TO LIKE. 3288 bayliner be perfect compared to the cost of...

    Midnight Re-boarding, can you? Alone

No different than plotting a coarse, dead reckoning , think , the water Is moving and while you are traveling along with it, you can control the end result if you understand that movement. Might not be where you want to go Butt , it could give a live result. 2 knot current. cold water Marin I...
