    Experiment

Another story that some have probably seen from me before. I get a phone call Friday afternoon. Its skipper and he has this pending delivery job on a brand-new 35-foot sport fisher. He been waiting for two weeks for the bare bones boat to be ready to transport to the boat show. But they are...

Now I know why y'all fish in BC

Dude this and lots of environmental issues are the result of our living practices .Is what it is. Pointing fingers to date has resulted in exactly what ? Take a look at the dump under EPA regulations into Puget Sound from the US side of the fence. As an example. I have to ask what it is that...

    Remote anchorages

Remote Pretty Girl cove eating oysters, cold lake Alberta, gulf islands, desolation sound, west coast Vancouver Island, Pitt lake, gulf island. For me this is freedom. Lots of stuff we can't do, but a trawler.? Smell the roses., enjoy your freedom that scenes of remote, disconnect...

You ever fall in the drink?

Oh I work at night for sure but log salvage at night is a no no. Bundle Recovery, it's all good.

    Gas or electric galley?

Propane for cooking, diesel for heat, unless tied to the dock then it's electric heat. Be nice to have a propane fridge but not going to happen for me. I hated to toss the diesel stove but you had to have it running all the time to cook on it. I burn a 20 lb tank of propane every 4 to 5...

You ever fall in the drink?

I find em loose, tie em up, get a recovery fee or the product. Sometimes I get to help restowe but most times I do shallow water recovery tow out to the real boats. 12 foot Livingston towing a bundle of logs around just makes you laugh. Some times it's the bundle of logs towing me around makes...

You ever fall in the drink?

Yup. Never dockside. Rolled a tin boat off discovery island spent over an hour in the waters and no pfd. Rolled a canoe of Galliano island pollier pass, ended up about half way to active pass before I made land, pfd saved my sorry ass. Last summer at oh so dark an hour. Got cocky walking a...

    You ever needed a tow?

Well I am an old ford guy. Grew up with the 352., 360., 390, 428, ford's. Ended up with a couple of rubber mades, parts. One of the reasons I purchased the boat. Knew that power. Different world today.

    Portland Fire

May the people that lost there lives rest in peace. The pictures, the scope of this event just gives me a butt pucker, heart palpitations. Being trapped by the toxic fumes on a covered dock just scares the. Out of me Can you run fast enough, too it or away.

    smoke detectors

Over the last weekend a friend, liveaboard down the river a bit came by to show me what was left of a cheap electric heater. He was on the dock and could hear the faint sound of an alarm. After a while he made the choice to see what was up. Found the boat with the alarm but could not access...

    You ever needed a tow?

Yup , twice in the past 30 years. Purchased the old single engine woody Artemis a 32 Grenfell express, after the survey's, mechanical and hull. The power had been rebuilt , like new , the prior year before I purchased her. Invoices from a machine shop in Victoria along with receipts from the...

This is how we tow in BC

Yup. CB radio , still use it today as an example. Yet 30 years later we seem to have forgotten the "rules ". CB works great for me today on the boat. Channel 9 or such for beach to boat as an example. Cheap hand set , base station etc. Lots of work arounds instead of VHF 16 be my point.

This is how we tow in BC

ch 16 is for distress or hailing. Go to a " working channel " . I hear this all the time. Can you imagine the "air waves " if every commercial boat in say the Georgia strait basin area broadcast there intentions on 16 ? Thinking local so I have no way of imagining the Hudson River. or the...
