    Marine salvage

Still without my boat. Repair seems unlikely , just to much damage. The loaner boat is just too sketchy, I am going to hurt myself at best. I gave it the college try, as in what a ****ing learning curve. Yet I been there seems the learning curve over the years is a repetitive thingy. I am...

    Good Wet Muffler for Detroits?

Look for some silent sailors. They work awesome on exhaust notes. Keep the DD note but bring it down to an awesome level at dock and while at WOT.

What kind of rot is this?

Not much will survive after a brushing of acetone. Then a diluted application of epoxy acetone over. Its painted with oil based base paint from the pics. Try a fire resistant paint over effected area . IMO Make sure its well ventilated for any application of what ever and where a breathing...

    Marine salvage

My access to internet sucks at best so I been a bit getting signed onto the site. The tow company has stepped up in a large way. Very nice , they have taken the boat for repair and left me a courtesy boat so I can continue to work. Along with replacement of some gear and a bit of paint for the...

    High water alarm

Kind of, I get to be the marina watchman , along with doing a lot of dewatering around the river. Boats taking on water at sea can be very dramatic , best case. Having a loud alarm grabs your attention quick. Enabling a response prior to the bilge being full of water reducing ones ability to...

Hard to beat cash on hand , from time to time. Cash rocks. I know this is an open forum, but. I am only here to share my experiences. Put a safe on board , in your place. Water proof , fire proof. Documents, cash, fire arms , passports go in there. Safes are cheap and very effective. Most...

    High water alarm

Depends on the vessel. Two high water alarms might be appropriate depending on bulkhead arrangements. I like about 2 inches above my secondary pump. In a location low where my main pumps are located.

    Marine salvage

Salvaging my own boat. Log tow broke apart, leaving bundles of logs ( 60,000 lbs plus ) to float down river on a big tide. Took out my work boat and damaged my home. Is what it is. In todays world I am some what accountable cause I have chosen to be here. Who knew. Invader took two big hits...

    High water alarm

Why not I gotta ask. Why not. Don't care if its a rule float switch or a mouse trap with asprin. that triggers any kind of alarm. ( Fire bell good. imo ) Anything that gives you or anyone else notice of water entering the basement. EARLY. Based on years of experience this simple addition to...

If you have an old boat;how was your first year aboard

Dream or nightmare. Choices. Gotta get the boat across the strait cause I have to be at work early tomorrow at 4 AM. Lesson one , being on a schedule with the home might not be a good idea. Putting the coffee maker on a timer for first thing in the morning might not be such a good idea with...

Comment by 'OFB' in media 'Timber storage at low water. Good time to ensure the product is secure. Before the NW wind.'

Eric Log salvage is more of a log storage kind of deal these days. The green lines are the rafting dog lines. Holding the product together on the stiff legs ( aka boom sticks ) Yup this is at the meeting of the North arm , Middle arm fraser river south east corner. Under the Canada line...

New life for old wood boats

Interesting thread for a guy like me. I have seen the results of this type of work. I have seen older fish boats with chicken wire stapled over the hull and ferro cement over. Who knew. But something thats is not mentioned within these threads is the type of wood boat or type of wood hull...

    New Outboard

Tohatsu 20 I love the smell of two stroke in the morning. Cold morning clearing the windows of dew, warming up the outboard. Love the horse power to weight ratio, my ability to fix on the run , the reliability. But they be getting old, the seals are gettin brittle, the parts are getting hard to...
