Japan: A cruel and Dishonorable nation...?

Yes I think you're right, the japs seemed to massacred hundreds of thousands of Chinese and Vietnamese in indo- china during the war. But my contention is that civilized nations do not murder combatants: the good treasrment of POWs is the central tenant of the Geneva convention.

Japan: A cruel and Dishonorable nation...?

The way of the warrior, the honour of the samurai was meant to be paramount . https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuri#Philosophy In an account of Japan sent to Father Ignatius Loyola at Rome, drawn from the statements of Anger (Han-Siro's western name), Xavier describes the importance of honor...

Japan: A cruel and Dishonorable nation...?

What do you think about the way the Japanese acted in WW2? Better or worse than the Nazis? The atrocious treatment of allied Pow's? Japan PM Shinzo Abe expresses 'profound grief' for WW2 - BBC News My opinion: The honourable code of the samurai; My ass!

    Beautiful Delfin

There was one for sale on this side of the pond, but it looked in terrible order, so I never followed it up. I was very taken by the design, and I'm still amazed that they could squeeze twin decks onto a 46' boat; just wondering if there's full headroom down below though out the boat? Please...

    'Trawler' capable of 12-14 knots

Hi Tod, Just to give you a framework to explore the sort of boats that might meet your criteria, here is a modern common rail super efficient trawler design: Swift trawler 34: 34' x 13' beam. http://www.beneteau.com/Motorboats/Swift-Trawler/Swift-Trawler-34 Displ. Loaded: 8.5 tons. Single...

    'Trawler' capable of 12-14 knots

With those sort of numbers you'll be looking at a boat of about 7 tons with a single 250/300hp- ish engine of about 35' or less. Most semi-d hulls need about 50hp/ton when they're loaded up with cruising gear and fuel. The only boat I can think of that does those numbers is the Mainship 34...

I have nothing but respect for rick taking on this massive project. I my own modest way I've built two stich and glue boats: both were 8' length sailing dinghies , so I can't imagine the work involved in a 30' boat. Keep up the fantastic work Rick, a very interesting and educational thread!

OA 423 Classico Fuel consumption tates

Hi Gordon, I grew up on a tillage farm, and we had two tractors; ploughing tractor and runabout tractor . the little Ferguson 135 belched smoke and couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding and was left idling for hours at a time; it was rebuilt several times with only 3000 hrs on the clock...

OA 423 Classico Fuel consumption tates

The numbers seem to sort of look like this, as general rule of thumb. Best case mpg single engine trawler is something like a MainShip 34' at 7 tons/ 7 kts/ 2 gal hr/3-4 mpg. Anything bigger with twins is going to chug along slightly faster at 8 kts giving 2mpg or there abouts. The difference...

U I love the high vis jackets and hard hats to comply with h&s, and then they build a massive 20' scaffold of a tiny floating pontoon finger that measures about 8' beam by 15' length, with a ob hung off the back. Wonder how an insurance claim would have got on....:whistling:

    Bumming Fuel Money From Guests?

Its very difficult to steer a middle course between being open and generous, and being taken advantage of. After a life time of experience, and being nearly 60, I employ the three strikes and you're out method . Generously entertain new people you meet the first time you invite them over. If...

    Oxe Diesel outboard

I believe the merc i/o 120hp with the vw car engine was a total disaster. Surprisingly the toyota land cruiser engine has also had major problems in marine guise, as has the yanmar BMW engines. Continuous duty in a boat doesn't seem to treat car engines kindly, they seem to like light duty...
