    What would you do?

put the same amount of money toward a different boat? If "different" = "bigger" then yes.

    Sundeck in PNW?

The extra entire room added to the boat with a covered, enclosed sundeck, like mine, is way more than worth the minor line handling issues.

    Advice on weird looking trawler.

A person would have to see a whole lot more specs on that boat to make any kind of a judgement. It may be a LOT tougher than it looks. Actually, it DOES look pretty tough. -- Edited by surveyor1 on Sunday 24th of July 2011 09:11:53 PM

bilge water - salt or fresh ?

O.K., follow-up. Tested the water that my boat floats in and the needle was pegged. Tested with fresh water and the needle doesn't move. Tested the bilge water and the needle was right in the middle. Conclusion: I have a mix of both, so now I'm looking everywhere.

bilge water - salt or fresh ?

I have water seeping into my bilge. How do I deternine if it's salt or fresh without tasting it ? This will determine where and how I look for the source.

    I boarded THEM !

So I'm on my sundeck at Friday Harbor and watched the CG vessel Swordfish dock nearby. It seemed more like a training drill for rookies as it took forever for them to secure it to the dock. Anyway, later that evening, after most of the kids got their civies on and went to town I noticed the...

    Another new Present 42

I'll chime in for the Pacific Nor'westers. Sweet ride ! Obviously I'm a Sundeck fan too. That there's an '88 Nova 40 built by Nova Marine in Taiwan. It's actually not a CHB (not that there's anything wrong with that). -- Edited by surveyor1 on Friday 4th of February 2011 07:58:00 PM

Things to do in Denver when you're ......

Sorry, My home port is Friday Harbor but I live in Denver so please allow me to vent. It was 67* a couple days ago (in Denver). Tuesday's high is supposed to be -3* (again, in Denver). In terms of precip, it's one to three inches expected.* My wife tells me that she's actually expecting six to...

Just boght a 1984 Marine Trader Labelle 43'

I have an '88 NOVA 40 sundeck (avatar) with twin TAMD 41A'S 200hp. It tops out at 3900 rpm = 14 kn. It smokes like a bastard on startup but great otherwise. I'm gonna install a couple wolverine pan heaters and hope that helps the smoke thing.

    New Guy needs advise

I have a 40' NOVA with twin Volvos. See avatar. According to "THE BOAT BUYER'S GUIDE TO MOTOR YACHTS AND TRAWLERS", there was no 38' NOVA, only 36, 40, 42 and 44. The 36 may have Volvos too. NOVAs are made in Taiwan by NOVA Marine as opposed to CHB's etc. I burn about 6 gph at hull speed. --...

That's not boating. Those people look at our "little" boats and think "gee, that must be fun."

    Getting Used to Fear

I can't believe the bowsprit isn't designed to carry any load capable of holding the boat in place just as well as any cleats. My windlass (Vetus) has a gypsy pawl. Just a little lever that I flip to catch a tooth and relieve any tension on the gypsy. The catenary of the chain is more "snubber"...
