Electronic anti-fouling..Houston we have a problem...

They seriously think a paint job will restore that? I realize the pictures are not all that great but that looks like a lot of missing metal to me. Marty.........................

    Underwater lights

I guess it is just me but I have never seen the sense of underwater lighting. Especially at the prices they want for those things. I have much better things to spend boat-bucks on that that. Guess my curmudgeon-ness is showing. Marty........................

    Swim step support brackets

What he said. You might be able to find replacements but you might spend a lot of time and $$$ to do so. Consider having new ones fabricated locally. I had to do that when we added a larger swim step and if memory serves me they were about $1300. That was for heavy 316 stainless with double...

    Pre-swirl stator

I would think that would create more drag than anything else. I know the Navy has used essentially the same thing on Torpedoes to replace one of the propellers, they called it a "propulsor". This is my opinion but I don't think that would provide enough benefit to offset the cost of installing...

That would be way cool, but I have better things to do with 13 boat bucks right now..... Marty......................

    Expanded Kidde Fire Extinguisher Recall

Considering the amount of powder in 34+ million extinguishers it is probably cost-effective for them to collect them all and reuse the powder. Regardless, what ever they want to do with these four recalled bottles is entirely up to them. Luckily these are not the only extinguishers I have on...

    Massive Kidde Fire Extinguisher Recall

Oh boy, here we go again. I have four affected by this recall. Two of them are the ones I received from the last recall. Perhaps I should re-think my extinguisher purchasing strategy.... Thanks for posting this Mike. Marty.........................

    Programmable thermostats

I have three thermostats on a single loop hurricane hydronic furnace. The thermostat in the forward stateroom failed last month and I replaced it with a programmable Honeywell thermostat from Home Depot. For $21 I figured I could not go wrong. It is a battery powered unit, just like what it was...

    President 41' Fuel Tanks

Mine DOES have a cross-over but very small diameter tubing (3/8" I think). The cross over valves are at the bottom aft corner of the tanks and then the tubing cross over on the aft engine room bulkhead. I do not have site tubes but I do have dip-sticks in each tank. Marty......................

    Hurricane Irma

I really just can't imagine what you guys are going through with boats lost or heavily damaged. We live aboard and simply love our home. I am not sure what I would feel if I found it gone one day. All I can say is Keep the faith, this will all come out in the end. Marty....................

    Water Purification?

As a live aboard I use the tanks all the time for two reasons. 1. To make sure the water in the tanks are routinely refreshed 2. To ensure I never fill the boat up with city water due to line or valve failure. Marty........................

    Dometic Head Level Sensor

I can second that recommendation. He has called me back every time I left a message, even when I really expected an email response he picked up the phone and called me directly. I have two separate systems, one for the fresh water tank and one for the black water tank. When the one for the...

    Whisky Golf.

I always monitor the continuous weather broadcast (WX01 in that area) when crossing since they always include the Status of Whiskey-Golf. Last month WX01 had a lot of static on it so I called Winchelsea Control on VHF10 and just asked them. Fairly simple to determine status of the range and I...

What is the best deal on boat gear you've ever gotten?

One time I tried to let a cashier know she charger me $0.25/quart for oil when the price was $2.50 (two cases for 48 quarts). She rudely argued with me so I let her convince me... As to the best deal I ever got. Walked into the local used marine place here in Poulsbo WA and saw a...

    Cruising South Puget Sound

You will have to wait for a new owner to come along. Fair Harbor is closed until a new owner reopens it. Friends are down that way this week and just reported that to us. Oh well, there are other spots. We really like south sound and get down there at least once a year (most years)...

Installing New Holding Tank in GB 42

I used the Man-Made decking from Lowes. They have it in 2x4, for hand rails, and I just ripped it to the appropriate thickness and taper and use it in strips to both support the tank and lock it in place. Marty....................

Entering Sooke Basin - Local Knowledge Needed Please

I think they use "lowest" rather than MLLW since they do not have minus tides (or something like that). I was using Vector charts on Coastal Explorer so all depths were shown in feet to the same datum which is, I believe, MLLW. Marty......................

Entering Sooke Basin - Local Knowledge Needed Please

Wow, just looked at that on the charts and that is some skinny water in there. The outer bay looks fairly straight forward but getting into that back basin area requires going through some really shallow water. Would definitely have to go through on better than +5 tide to make it safely, at...

    Hull ID Number

On my 1983 President 41 the HIN is molded into the transom on the starboard side, just below the teak band (3" below band, 7" in from corner). A friends 1981 President 41 had it in the same place. Are you saying yours is NOT there? Marty...........................
