    Hurricane Lines?

In the end it comes down to good planning based on your boat and slip/anchorage - after that it is just a whole lot of luck or divine intervention. Boats can be replaced - people can't. Never would I stay on the boat. Leave, then come back and see what is left.

    Alcohol Stove

We added an Origo (Dometic) alcohol stove to our trawler and we love it for exactly the reasons you listed. Like you, we came from sailboats where I first came across one. After that, we removed the propane system out of our next boat and installed the Origo. Then when we bought the trawler...

    Lehman 120 Lift Pump

You probably would have had the same results without cracking the injector nuts. Bleeding the pump should be sufficient. I know it is on mine.

    Hurricane Lines?

What are people on this forum using for chafe protection? Picture would be great if you have them. I have found that chafe is the enemy and it is caused by many different situations.

    Lehman 120 Lift Pump

Also be careful when you tighten the bleed screws up. The housing is aluminum and it wouldn't take much force to damage the threads.

I need to replace my bimini canvas. Approximately 12' x 14'

I had a top I sent them that was old and the new one fit nicely when it came back from NorthStar. If you know where it has shrunk and how much you need it to be stretched I'm sure they can work with that. I had them make some of my pieces and send me the snaps to install myself so I could get...

I need to replace my bimini canvas. Approximately 12' x 14'

If you have the old canvas, take it off and send it to Northstar Products. They will reproduce it with heavy weight Sunbrella and dyneema thread. They usally will turn it around in a week. Their prices can't be beat. They have done a lot of work for me all by phone and mail. Highly...

    Do I need fuel polishing?

The fuel "polishing" is only as good as the access to your tank. Do you have an inspection port? Are there baffles in your tank? If there are baffles (especially top to bottom baffles) the polishing will be very limited. If you tank is open end to end and there is an inspection port that...

Starting Battery Size (Ford Lehman 120)

I just went through a similar exercise a few weeks ago on our Marine Trader 34 with a FL 120. When we bought the boat it came with 2 8D batteries. I dreaded getting those beasts out of the subfloor engine room but bit the bullet. I used a block and tackle to get them up to floor level. To...

    Nav apps for iphone

I second the Navionics. I use it on my i-Pad and i-Phone. I also have i-NavX but haven't used it much since I bought Navionics. I think it is more functional and works better for my needs.

    Do I need fuel polishing?

I'm dealing with a significant case of bioscum in my tanks (looks like pond scum). I did a similar thing to what FF said after I cleaned all of it out that was reachable. I have 4 full height chambers (baffles) in each tank so short of installing 4 access ports you cant get to every chamber...

    Replacement Toilet Recommendations?

We have a similar boat and pulled the raritan electric head out and replaced with an AirHead Composting toilet. So glad we did.

    Unbalanced Fuel Tanks

Why not just isolate each tank with valves and separate filters then run off one tank at a time? Mine is set up that way. I also have a polishing system which allows me to transfer fuel from tank to tank. This way I can keep the boat relatively balanced.

    Weather Underground???

I find Wunderground to be unpredictable and inaccurate. We recently went for a week cruise in the Southern Chesapeake Bay area which is known to produce severe thunderstorms. We were following the forecast and predictions of Wunderground very closely and they were continually wrong. They...

Tanks Full or Empty during Offseason?

I am curious what others are doing during the offseason - are you keeping your diesel fuel tanks full, empty or partially full? What are you doing and why?

    Heavy Battery Removal

Not sure about the differences in the plates etc., however I am not sure where you are getting a 60 ah difference from. Since the batteries are 6v connected in series then parallel, it only yields an additional 30 ah difference. For the way I am currently using my boat getting 430 ah total...

    Heavy Battery Removal

Follow-up to my OP: I successfully removed the 2 8D's from the engine room using a block and tackle rig. Once they were out of the engine room we were able to slide them across the floor on a towel and move them to a dolly. I went to Sam's Club on the advice of this forum and found 4 Duracell...

    Interior wood finish

I am trying to match this finish up so I can touch up some dings in the wood. Does anyone have any idea what this finish is? It has a satin sheen to it?

    Heavy Battery Removal

While my original issue was getting the heavy beasts out of the engine room I am now curious what you have gone to in lieu of replacement 8d's ? Please describe what you have done - for example replaced 2 200 ah 8d's with four 110ah 6v AGM's wired in serial and parallel. This is all very...

    Heavy Battery Removal

Those of you who have replaced 4d and 8d battery banks - how did you get the old heavy batteries out of your engine room? I'm probably going with 6v replacements which I can probably manage. Any ideas on who would be willing to do that? I'm in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area.

    A/C Return Filter Material

I just installed a new AC unit this winter and it came with a 1/4" thick piece of foam that slides in to a holder directly in front of the cooling fins. I installed the AC in a lower cabinet space so had to figure out how to not restrict the air flow to the unit. I ended up removing the panels...

Grand Banks 32 Helm Seats. Need new layout.

Boathealer - very nice work on your helm seat. Can you reach the wheel from the seat? It looks pretty far from the wheel in the photos. I'm thinking of taking on a project like this in my boat but haven't figured that part out yet. In order to keep hands on the wheel the seat would need to...

    Airhead toilets - Questions

We had an airhead (best of the composting toilets in my opinion) in our last boat. When we bought our current boat I took the electric flush system out and put in an airhead. Best decision we made on the boat. They absolutely will work fine in a wet bath. To empty the solid tank you lift the...
