    Tank Monitor

Anyone have advice one a good water tank monitor. I installed a BlueSeas VSM a year ago and the tank monitoring has never worked. The readings are all over the map. I've tried everything BlueSeas has suggested with no luck. I'm now thinking of going with a Hart Tank Tender. There is only...

    Site Tube Installation

I'm wanting to install a site tube on my SS water tanks. The problem I'm having is I can't find the correct fittings for the tank (1/8" SS wall). A guy at the hardware store said I needed a 90 deg. mushroom head fitting. Any advice on what/where on the correct fitting?

Thanks guys. I feel much better about upgrading.

    Copper vs. Rubber fuel lines

I'm getting ready to install a Racor dual filter in place of my single. The fuel lines are all copper. Rather than dealing with cutting/flarring my plan is to replace all lines with rubber and barb fittings. Copper is probably a much better system; but I also intend on changing shutoff valves...

    FL Water Pump weep hole?

Just to keep on track, my pump is fine, I was just questioning the hole at the bottom. I pull the pump to track down a high temp reading on my guages. The guys at Am. Diesel (GREAT PEOPLE) said I probably need to bleed the air from my exh. manifold.

    FL Water Pump weep hole?

While working on my FL120 I noticed a slotted hole on the under side of my water pump. Is this a factory weep hole or corrosion. I haven't had any leaks so I'm guessing it's got to be a weep hole.

    Northern Lights vs. Kohler

It's time to upgrade. I'm tired of trying to find parts for my old Onan. The replacement has been narrowed down to either a Northern Lights or Kohnler. I'd go with the NL but the Kohnler is way cheaper for the same KW. Do you guys have any pros or cons on these two in the 9 KW class?

    Onan Running Hot

Has anyone got an idea what would cause my Onan to run hot. I've checked both water systems; everything OK. It will run about 45 min. and then the HT switch (mounted on the block not the exh.) shuts it down. I took a temp reading in the switch area, it was around 250 deg.. Can there be a...

    Hydraulic vs Rotary Steering

Has anyone removed a chain steering and installed a hydraulic system? I'm planning on upgrading my autopilot to the new Ray Marine that just came out. But, I'll need to decide if I want to stay with the steering system I have before I invest in a new drive unit.

    Benmar Course keeper 210?

Daddyo, I'm in the process of removing my Benmar rotor chain drive and replacing it with a Raymarine mechanical rotory. Any advice?

    Hull Speed

I'm sad to say my boat has a full displ. hull. So I guess I'm stuck with the 8 kt. hull speed.

    Hull Speed

Is appears some of you guys are on the wrong post. This was a question/info post on hull speed/engine HP, not wakes and law enforcement. Thanks.

    Hull Speed

    Mine is a full displacement hull. It has a FL120, 26x22 4 blade prop. Speeds are 1600rpm - 7kts, 1800rpms - 8kts, WOT 2100rpm - 8.5kts. At 7kts I burn 3 gph. The boat's looks is on the style of a GB Europa.

    Hull Speed

That's pretty much what I thought. But I like to dream; 7.5 kts. is a killer.
  15. D

    Hull Speed

From all the info I've read a boats hull speed "is what it is"; give or take a kt. or two. But, my question is, if I replace my FL120 with an engine with more HP can I get a reasonable increase in speed? Keep in mind this is all number crunching. So save all suggestions on why not just buy a...

    Onan Raw Circulation

What am I missing? The raw water cooling on my Onan 7.5 MDJE has stopped AGAIN. Usually it needs repriming, impeller, etc. Not this time. It will pump water to the level of the HE but no farther. I disconnected the hoses; I can blow through the HX & blow/suck from the seacock. When the gen...

    hydraulic or electric?

Thanks guys. I guess electric is the way to go. My biggest concern was the hole in the bow slowing me down. I don't think I can take going slower than 7 kts.

    hydraulic or electric?

Ready to make the move on installing a bow thruster. But everyone gives different advice. So I'm turning to the pros. Here goes; A- how much speed will I lose do to extra drag (41', single, full displacement, 7.5kts @ 1800RPM) B- if I go hydraulic can I later use the system for my future plan...

    Mast Replacement

Making plans to replace my heavy wooden mast with something lighter (aluminum). It will only be used for a 4ft open array radar, gps ant., an lights (no boom). So maybe 14ft. or less; as long as the gear is above my 7ft. bimini. All suggestions welcome. Oh, I'm in covered slip (low roof) so...

    Lifting a LF120

OK, this may be a dumb question. If I use two 1/2" eyebolts (one front, one rear) to lift the engine & tranny high enough to repair the stringer, will the threads on the eyebolts hold all the weight. I don't know the tranny weight but the engine weight is 1100lbs. I'd like to leave the tranny...

    Lifting a LF120

I need to replace the engine mounts on my LF 120. At the same time I'm planning on reparing some bad stringer wood under the front right mount. My question is, without going to a yard to have the work done, can I place some timbers on the wheel house floor above the engine room hatch openings...

    Blister Advice

We just pulled our boat out for the first time. Told the yard to clean bottom & apply a coat of A/F paint. Yard called next day, said I needed to look at bottom. It had blisters about the size of a pencil eraser all over it. The guy said it looks like years of bottom jobs were applied on top of...

    Pay Back Time?

Boatpoker, thanks for the link, you're right on. This whole discussion is a good example of what we've become in this country. No one now is responsible his own actions. It's every man for himself. Maybe that explains "Ksanders - Alaska" outlook. I guess we in the lower 48 may have to...

    Pay Back Time?

Question for all you seasoned trawler owners. We've had a bad an scary situation happen to us several times. While existing a no wake zone, bridge, etc. sometime a large twin engine gas sport fisher or the like will go to full throttle from just behind us causing us to almost roll over. Keep...
