Adding electric outlets where I want them

I've often seen cases where there was a line that came in that supplied power, and then a line (sometimes two) going out to the next outlet or light... On a traditional home outlet, you at least have two terminals, so you could put the incoming line on one, and the outgoing line on another...

Adding electric outlets where I want them

One issue I ran into in dealing with outlets and such - you often need to connect 3 wires together (incoming, outgoing, and splitting off for a device, the outlet, etc...). I guess the "proper" way to do this is with a screw terminal bus strip? Maybe use a double wide box, with a blank on...

    Water tank level sensor

I hadn't considered the fuel tanks - but you're probably right that they are most likely a similar setup. I'm assuming regular automotive anti-seize is the right thing to use on the screws for the fuel tank sending units? John

    Water tank level sensor

This weekend, I pulled out the float sensor in my water tank. I have a metal tank, the sensor has the 5 screws around the perimeter. The strange thing was that the screws weren't threaded into the tank itself. There is a metal ring with threaded holes on the inside of the tank, basically...

    Latex paint for interior?

So, home depot does "ship to store", but will they do "ship to *ship*" (or, "ship to boat").... <grin>!! Thanks for the leads guy!!!

    Latex paint for interior?

Interesting. I wasn't thinking so much about mold, as worrying that the latex paint might break down and start running on the cabinetry or flooring under the wall surfaces.

    Latex paint for interior?

I'm getting ready to do some painting in the master stateroom of my Chris Craft 410. Historically, there have been leaks at the windows (typical), and also at the toe rail (appears that the toe rail covers the deck to hull joint) - resulting in water penetrating to the interior cabin wall...

    Spade connectors for AC?

Yes, thankfully, this is one of my smaller headaches - though now that SUMMER is here (we had temps in the high 90's yesterday) - AC becomes VERY IMPORTANT. My primary concern was whether spade connectors were ok for AC circuits. Though the wire harness connects to the main electrical board...

    Spade connectors for AC?

The boat is a 40' Chris Craft cabin cruiser, and is kept on the lake. Typical usage right now is sitting in the dock, due to the engines still being a major work in progress... :( Expected usage would be fairly slow most of the time (8-10mph), with occasional runs at full speed. There will...

    Spade connectors for AC?

I have replaced an AC init in my boat with a MarinAire 16,000 system. In general - very happy with it, and thrilled with the assistance I have received when calling them for support. Last week, the fan motor died. They sent me a new one. I installed it, but now only the low fan speed works...

    Bromine tablets in sea strainers?

    Bromine tablets in sea strainers?

I'm on an inland lake. A couple of friends have suggested putting hot tub type bromine tablets (about 1-2" disks, similar to chlorine, slow dissolving) in the sea strainer to discourage the dang Zebra Muscles from growing there. Might also reduce algae growth - though I'm guessing there's not...

    Replacing the holding tank

Two responses... 1) On my Regal, I've been using the Garnet SeeLevel II tank monitor ( https://www.amazon.com/LEVEL-709P31003-Tank-Monitoring-System/dp/B01N6B5ORH/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=garnet+seelevel+ii&qid=1613970873&sr=8-7 ), about $280. The tank monitor comes with 3 self-adhesive...

    refinishing caprails varnish or awlgrip?

Another wild option... I have very little exposed wood on my boat. The toe rail, wood hand rail only around the back part around the helm area, and the wood inside the fairly protected helm area. I'm planning to sand and use tongue oil on the toe rail and hand rail, after I make canvas covers...

    Aqua-lift

Thanks guys!! I was thinking I'd read that somewhere, and it makes total sense. With it being gas engines, with water backing up in the exhaust, I think it probably did get back into the cylinders through the open exhaust ports... Hopefully didn't do any permanent damage! And, certainly...

    Aqua-lift

I have a 1980 Chris Craft Commander 410, with twin 454's. The boat had been sitting neglected for a LONG time. We rebuilt the carb on the port engine and got it to start - but it had a bad rattle the sounded like valve lifters. Replaced those, then had a series of issues that kept us from...

    Outlets in Engine Room?

On the subject of extension cords - to me, it seems like a better idea to have the outlet in the engine room rather than have a cord running through a hatch where you now have to worry about chafe rubbing through the cord and causing a short.

    Outlets in Engine Room?

The GFCI outlets I bought (whether I mount them in the galley or anywhere else) have screws on them that don't appear to back out all the way - and thus won't allow me to put ring terminals on them. They're really intended for a bare wire to be inserted in the hole, and use the screw terminal...

    Outlets in Engine Room?

There were at least 3 items in the engine room that prompted me to the original post: 1) 4' tube type "shop lights" - LED type now! - So that I can see what I'm doing in the engine room. 2) Engine room heater (USCG approved). 3) Battery charger. All of these <could> be hardwired in - but that...

    Outlets in Engine Room?

I haven't seen it in any of my recent boats - but is there any reason not to have an electrical outlet in the engine room? My boat has gas engines - so I have to be sure that the engine room is well vented before I go plugging stuff in - but seems like it would be handy to have an outlet down...

    Replacing the holding tank

Thanks guys for the sounding board. OK, you have an excellent point - Plywood as the "form" for a poop tank may not be the best idea. I'm not familiar with "coosa", but will peek into it a little better. The point of the plywood was to have something that was cheap and easy to work with that...

    Replacing the holding tank

Peggie - I'll be curious to hear what you have to say about this! If you want - skip to the end. Executive summary of the question: Can I fabricate my own holding tank from plywood covered in fiberglass and epoxy? I posted a previous thread "Are two (marine) heads better than one?" In the...

Are two (marine) heads better than one?

I finally made it back out to the boat. The waste tank is metal, and is shot. There's at least one hole rusted through the top of the tank between the fittings. FIRST QUESTION: (for Peggie?): If I replace the waste holding tank, can the Raritan Marine Elegance pump UP 24-30" to get the...

Are two (marine) heads better than one?

Peggie, I saw the Uniseal - looks good. It looks like it's just a large grommet designed for the pipe fitting to go through - is that correct? For example, if the existing tank turns out to be plastic, and I want to remove the Y between the existing heads, can I use the Uniseal to add another...

Are two (marine) heads better than one?

Thank you both. It didn't work just before I sent the previous post. But as soon as Dave responded (magic touch??) - it worked fine for me as well.
