South of the border boat storage?

I have cruised the Sea of Cortez and mainland MX for 10 years. Nothing cheap here. I have a 43 ft OA, 50 ft Marina dock space is $1,200+ per month at Puerto Escondido. Dry storage is $440. I have a 34" slip in KTN Alaska for $100 per month. But I had to get on a waiting list for 3 years to...

Shaft vibration and scope of work

Yes. Pull shafts and have them tried. Also consider adding a frangible coupling to save shaft in future events. Some years ago I replaced my 3 blade props with 5 blade. Big vibration reduction. Better speed with same rpm.

    Recommendation for Replacement Electric Oven-Stove

I use propane. Most folks like the Force 10 stoves but I find the Princess more reliable. Propane cooking is the best. I recommend standard 5# propane tanks. Easily filled and swapped when they get cruddy. A swap fill is sometimes all that is available in many locations. One tank will last...

    Update on Battery Choices

Hmmm. Batteries can be a big hassel. Nothing more disturbing than hitting the start button and hearing a "thunk" and no start. I had 6 volt Trojan type batteries that failed in 2 yrs. Boat is in Mexico and they were not serviced over the summer. I replaced with no maintenance Optima blue...

Help with purchase - Engine report

Find a boat that has been lovingly cared for and still budget $10,000 for repairs. Insurance, mooring, utility and taxes will be at least $1,000 a month

Help with purchase - Engine report

10k boat I can't imagine a boat listed for this price is a good investment. Too much wrong.$$$$ big money for repair, double your repair estimate to cover the unknown things not identified in the survey. I'd be concerned about shaft pitting and prop electrolysis

Did I just kill my FLA battery bank? 10V!

I had terrible problems with 6v golf cart batteries. I suspect it was caused by low water. I replaced all my batteries with Optima 12 volt. They are truly maintenance free and much easier to lift. No problems now.

What does my Voltage Gauge tell me?

Wow. Very confusing. One recommendation. Test the battery with one lead disconnected to get an accurate battery reading. Don't trust the battery off switch, stray voltage will find its way to the battery from charger wires.

    Is my chain undersized?

Chain I recommend you purchase 200ft of new chain 5/16 and new gypsy head to fit so you know what you have and it's condition. Get a spare storm anchor with 15 ft of chain and 200ft of rode. This way all issues are resolved. You will have a good chain and anchor combo for 95% of your needs...

    Money upon closing

Closing After SEA trial I offered $15k less than asking price. Many items needed attention. Seller would only drop price $13,000. I walked away, next day broker called and advised each broker would contribute $1,000 from their commission to close the deal. I bought the boat.

    Do It NOW, Don't Wait!!

I have cruised since I bought Darlin, a 43 ft Ocean Alexander trawler in 2000. I retired in 2009 and took her to Alaska and west Vancouver Island for 2 seasons. I then cruised to the Sea of Cortez and have been there and on the Mexican Mainland for 9 winters. In 2017 I bought a 34 c&c in...
