Average Length of Time Boat Owned

First, I'd say that this group is not representative of most boat owners. I think this group will skew toward much longer ownership than average. Brokers will tell you, probably honestly, that 3-5 years is a typical ownership window. In my case, the last boat was 3.5 years.

Mainship 400 Charter Anchorages around Fort Myers?

You got great advice from each of these posts. FYI, at South Seas Plantation all the slips are side-tie and it's the nicest marina anywhere. Useppa is a great place to dock for the night and Barb at SWFY can get you in as she is a member.

For Sale: Sold-1971 Grand Banks 42 for sale in Chattanooga $25000

Is she in a marina in Chattanooga? If so, where, and how much is the slip rental? I live in Atlanta and would drive back and forth.

Mainship 400 Charter to Dry Tortugas ..Anchorages

I’d say you might be too early in the year to be able to rely on anchoring in the Marquesas. You want calm to light easterlies to anchor there. A NW would make it very bad. Don’t even think about taking that boat into Mooney Harbor. We stop on the SW corner of the Marquesas and can day...

Now is the time to act, we can all do something good!

Yep, and unless you crush your old car, it’s going to be bought by someone else and continue to pollute the same as before. If you like sexy technology and can get by with a small car and limited range, go for it, but don’t get all high and mighty about it.

Vacation Time...How much do you have?

I’m 55 and had 4 weeks at my last job. Im starting a new one January 1 and will be back to 3 weeks off. I got down to the boat in Florida 7-8 times a year, often just for long weekends.

How much more is insurance for Florida summers?

I’m with BandB on this. Our boat was in Florida, and our insurance covered 125 miles offshore of entire USA (but no Cuba coverage), with a $1000 deductible, except for named storms where the deductible was $10,000. Cost was about 1.5% of agreed value.

Skippers Fishcamp in Darien is awesome. The town dock is indeed west of the road and right next to Skippers. BIG tide and current.

    Red tide status

It’s a summer phenomenon and requires warner water. Will be fine in February.

    What type of hull?

Well I’ll be damned. There are a few gassers that fit the bill, in Chicago, in Michigan, in Tennessee, etc. I guess I’m more used to ocean boats where gas would be very odd...

    What type of hull?

I appreciate this angle. Clever. I’m going to try to find a 40+ footer with gas, online, just for fun. I’m sure there will be plenty of Crusader 350’s in 30-36 footers, and also some big blocks. Hmmm, let’s see..

    What type of hull?

    Over 40 feet? Diesel.

List vs Sale Price? / Buyer's Agent?

List vs Sale Prince? / Buyer's Agent? I certainly agree that the listing agent was trying to make sure that either way that he retained the full 10% commission in house. But another reason might be that putting the junior guy on the buyer is a way to help along a new guy in an ethical way...

The Great Loop- What would YOU ask the experts?

I’d like to ask veterans about their maintenance needs, what tools and parts they brought, what they needed but did not have, how much downtime they faced, and what could they fix themselves vs what they needed help with. I’m utterly mechanically disinclined, so it remains an area of concern...

Wife falls off boat in RI

This is the funniest story all week. First they actually hit the biggest bridge in the state of RI. In another article the CG says the skipper claimed to not remember much after that. Next, he admits to falling asleep (passing out). Then his wife swims ashore at Prudence Island in the middle...
