Hi Bruce,
A slight divergence not a hijack of the thread - I have a leak above the left front corner and I can`t see where its coming from - can you do a Pauline Hanson on the above please. It might be my problem. Are you talking about right up under the "brow" just above the top of the front...
Hey guys, you forgot one piece of critical advice - and that is..........................make sure the contents of the tank is BELOW where you want to cut the hole, BEFORE the first cut:dance:
Bruce,
Remember I`m talking about a 135, but very straight forward - a socket with a 100mm extension - easy peasy - however having said that - I was luck the bolts weren`t seized.
The only complication was the run of flexible exhaust pipe from the elbow to the muffler - mine is only short (on...
G`day to you too James and welcome - we are not a proud group so are happy to have Sydney siders amongst our number:dance:
As Bruce says, lots of info in these pages/posts and an equal number of people willing to share their knowledge.
Cheers
George
Well, in the end I went to the bolt shop and bought grade 5 - we call them "high tensile" down here.
Maybe what would be interesting is a tutorial for boaties on what type of bolts to use where - what`s stainless good for and in what applications -ditto for regular (or not so regular) steel...
WOW - I thought steel was steel and stainless was stainless so I thought my alternatives were to go to the chandler and ask for stainless steel, or the bolt shop and ask for regular steel.
Am I right to summarise that any steel is better than stainless? If the bolt shop has a choice...
I am currently re fitting the exhaust elbow/injector to my SP 135 Lehman.
The four bolts are, I think, mild steel and I assume that the manifold is also steel (cast iron) The bolts are looking a bit tired - the thread looks a little worn so no problem - up to the bolt shop for some...
Hi C and Dj, thanks for taking the time to reply - the Seaboard Marine site is great. Happily, the overall design of my system ticks all the boxes.
Dj, you really answer my question re checking temps and as a rule of thumb, if the pipe is cool, the design is cool (groan - sorry).
I`ll run the...
In chasing down a lot of steam from our port engine (raw water pump impellor) I checked the exhaust elbow - made of steel and badly corroded. Bummer! Up to my local stainless guy for a new one (as an aside, I dropped the old one in at 9.00am and picked up the newly manufactured heavy guage...
Just a comment on your daily plan - at trawler speeds, that's approaching 10 hours a day -no stops, no refuelling, no shopping, no sight seeing - no nothing - for 20 to 25 days - that's not a holiday - that's an endurance test -a marathon.
Well, after many trips on several different boats, out 16 year old poodle has finally figured out what the square of artificial turf is for in the cockpit - just makes life easy for everyone, especially me as I was the "nature calls" dinghy driver - especially as her age occasionally meant a...
Ditto for Malagari - a giant Wagner radio and aerial tuner above the downstairs helm station - about as useful as ................. well you can work it out. Its still there only because I don`t want to have to fill the holes. Still has the huge aerial - I`m thinking of cutting off the top 2...
I am sitting with a coffee and the generator is humming away - whew.
Thanks for the responses - it was great to wake up this morning with some options. I went hunting for the circuit breaker as psneed suggested - not found - without a meter my checks were rudimentary unfortunately Ski (as is my...
Hi,
We are out cruising at the moment and the generator has packed it in. Very serious as it means no COFFEE!!!
Itas a westebeke 8btd. I ran it this afternoon no problems - shortly after I shut it down I needed to fire iit up again - pressed the preheat then the start -nothing - no instrument...
Only a divergence - not a hijac:)
When we talk of teak decks there is often talk of recutting the groove......... my question is how is this done - any particular tool and or tecnique?
Cheers
The main heat exchanger - coolant and sea water share this - sea water goes from the pump, to this heat exchanger (to cool the engine coolant) then to the engine oil and tranny coolers then is injected out the exhaust. You will need to remove it and have it pressure tested. Fingers crossed that...
When we purchased our boat, the PO had removed the deckwash and associated plumbing and hardware. He didn`t give a reason. He did leave the pump though (in a bucket in the lazarette) - an engine driven pump with an electric clutch. It was the original because all the wiring is still there. The...
Looking at the photo, it looks like the teeth on the gypsy have worn on the pressure side, giving the impression of slack - upsizing the chain will increase the distance between the centre of each chain link - only by a smidge, but enough to get the teeth and chain loops out of phase and...
Definitely agree with this - its a real s%*t of a job and the smelly stuff gets into the bilge no matter how cleverly you try to stop it. Had to run 00s of litres of water through the bilge to flush it (that's not a pun!)
