    Scratches on swim platform

I'll try the approach next week. I didn't get why you would first apply repair putty before sanding past the damage. why not directly sand beyond the damage?

    backup camera installation

I have moved my boat three times, every time the docking takes a long and awkward time. with some wind drifting effect, it would take even longer. Every time I wished I could see how far the pilings and finger spikes were from the sides, when I turn out of the slip or back into it in wind gusts.

if using a wood block, scuff one surface, paint the other surfaces, wait for the paint to dry, glue it to the roof, caulk the edges. Is this order correct?

    diesel heater choice

I bought a Hcalory 5kw heater. Did you mean it's a copy of Espar, not Webasto?

    backup camera installation

I think backup cameras can help me with docking. i'm planning to install the Yakry system with 3 cameras. One will be attached to the davit arm using a gutter mount for the rear view. Sideviews are more important, and have some challenges as there are no an available attach point along the edge...

air intake hose and filter options on Chinese diesel heater

is silicone sealant needed on exhaust hose connections to the heater and to the through hull? are exhaust hose clamps directly clamping on metal, or over a layer of insulation?

    water dispensor

I just completed the installation. The pump works ok so far, with no leaking at the joints. The downside is the vibration and sound is a little loud when it's running. The rubber foot doesn't work much to dampen the vibration. It's mounted to the closet wall using 3 #4-40x2" machine screws.

Question on enlarging a drill hole

It didn't come loose. The manual says to insert the bit as far as possible into the collar. I inserted only half the shank into the collar to have more insertion length into the hole. I noted the shank was pushed into the collar for a bit when the adversity happened

Question on enlarging a drill hole

Do you mean working the file around the hole to bite off the edges gradually?

Question on enlarging a drill hole

Thanks. The examples of chipped edges on the internet are not as bad so I didn't know it's a big risk. I would buy some odd sized drill bit to make it in one go.

Question on enlarging a drill hole

Thanks. I mean the enlarged hole will have a tapered shape because the ream is tapered, correct? It cannot keep the enlarged hole straight, e.g. a machine screw needs a straight hole

Question on enlarging a drill hole

i see, step drill bit works on a thin sheet, but he closet wall is considerably thick

Question on enlarging a drill hole

I can see this is used to manually enlarge a hole. Does it still work if you want to keep the hole straight?

Question on enlarging a drill hole

For the smallest hole for a 1/4 machine screw to slide in, should I get 17/64", or equivalently 16mm drill bit?

Question on enlarging a drill hole

The hole is not in the best location to visually check if the dremel bit is perfectly perpendicular. It must have touched the edge of the hole. I didn't know countersink is also necessary here.

Question on enlarging a drill hole

I drilled a 1/4 in hole on the closet in the galley to through a 1/4 in tubing. The tubing needs a little bigger hole so I used Dremel 654, insert into the hole then start the Dremel, up and down and around using the bit shaft as a guide. The first few passes were running smooth, and I actually...

air intake hose and filter options on Chinese diesel heater

the air passage is straight through, so this one will not have any silence effect in John McK 47's CDH videos, he weighed the air filter to be more important his test at 3:03 of this video actually shows higher decibel with a silencer attached.

air intake hose and filter options on Chinese diesel heater

I'm still planning to place the heater inside the salon closet. the combustion air will also be from the closet. Is the dosing pump powerful enough to draw diesel from the racor 500FG? if so, is it still necessary to install the fuel filter that comes with the heater?

air intake hose and filter options on Chinese diesel heater

this is the air filter that comes with the package: the mesh material is flimsy, the area is too small. The white filer recommended in John's video has a larger mesh area, but I didn't find the same one in the plumbing stores nearby, so I'm thinking to buy this one in addition to the...

air intake hose and filter options on Chinese diesel heater

combustion air intake (C). I've watched John's video series. The benefit of going up a size is to reduce air restriction for an intake hose over 50cm

air intake hose and filter options on Chinese diesel heater

In a video the Youtuber gave an advice that the restriction of air intake should be reduced. Following this advice, I'm considering using a 30mm ID intake hose with a 30 to 24mm reducer, instead of the 24mm aluminum hose that came with the heater. The air intake will draw air from salon inside...
