My dads boat - 110' LOA with twin 8-71's (250 HP each - very early ones) burns about 12 GPH at 10 KTS. In its original Navy trim it did about 20 KTS with different engines.

    Alaska Trip

Warm Springs Bay was fairly full but most of the rest of the trip was pretty quiet aside from commercial / fishing vessels. I passed one yacht between Endicott and Petersburg. There were 3 large (130' - 200') yachts tied up in KTN but for a trip of around 450 NM it was very quiet. Lots of...

    Trim Tabs Zinc anodes

Trim tab anodes should be the same alloy as the others on your boat. If hull anodes are zinc then the trim tab anodes should be zinc. My boat is welded aluminum thus I have aluminum alloy anodes on both the hull and trim tabs. A classic case of mismatched anodes is a outboard powered...

    Canada to U.S. boarder crossings

I know of two different vessels that have gone from P.S. to Ketchikan in the last 1 - 2 weeks, anchoring for a few hours at night then continuing. 1st one was a diesel trawler, 2nd one was a twin O/B boat that did stop for fuel but did not get off the boat at all, even at the fuel dock.

    radar-open or closed?

Seldom was the radar range above 24 NM on any ship I sailed on. When making landfall at the end of an ocean passage it might get bumped up to 48 NM just to pick up land earlier. Large open array antenna are very good at target discrimination - picking up small items like birds on water if...
