    New windlass for GB42

Most of the GB42s since about the mid 1980s use the Lofrans Tigres. www.lofrans.com/product/71-horizontal-windlasses/5017-tigres

    Bridge clearance

That’s what I did, Peter. I used a small bubble level to be reasonably sure of level, measured to water and up to mast anchor light with a steel tape and added the two together.

Reducing boat height by 5cm (two inches) by ballast

My GB42’s fresh water tanks are inside the laz on the transom. When the water tanks are empty by bow sinks about 3cm (stern rises). Full fuel tanks lower the whole boat about 2cm. Do you have an all-chain rode?

    Waste holding tanks

Typically, GB-42s have a 45-48 gallon fiberglass holding tank unless, like Ted suggests, the original tank was replaced for some reason. A 48-gallon tank fits nicely between the center engine stringers and under the generator. Only way to know for sure is to calculate its volume by measuring it.

    Grand Banks 36 Headliner

^This! I've never seen a GB with a factory-installed wood ceiling. Liner only. Cigatoo replaced the original liner as others in the past. I have the original untorn liner. I stay away from it; don't even breathe on it! Good luck!

    Tank thickness “gauge”

16 gauge is about 1/16" (about 1.6mm). 1/8" is about 11 gauge. Might be too much for average nibblers.

Eric, you and I joined the forum about the same time. Good luck. Sounds like you have your plate full. If you're ever down in the San Francisco Bay Area, let me know...we can go for a ride on the Bay or Delta!

    Tank thickness “gauge”

My old tanks in the back of a pickup. I didn’t measure them, however, I’m thinking eighth-inch thick.

    Bow Heavy

IMHO, 3/8” chain is a little over kill for a 36’ boat. Heavy. Try nosing up to the dock. Run your chain out on the dock and see if your bow rises. Post #2 is worth exploring.

    Hull speed/ horsepower questions

I replaced the tanks in my GB42 about four years ago. Removing my Cat 3208 naturals was not an option. Had the old leakers cut up and replaced with three aluminum tanks on each side. Reduced my total gallonage from 600 to 535. Cost was a little less than $19k.

That’s one the old burgers. Stitched. $50. The teak pole used to be offered from GB for $275. Someone misses it.

    Cold Plate Conversion

We replaced our Grunert system on our 1986 42’ Classic about two years ago with the 12-volt, water-cooled, Frigaboat system. We used the existing GB boxes. So far, we’re very pleased with the decision to make the switch.

Not what you want to wake up next to!

Seems about what I would expect. If the lines were tight at high tide, they would be slack at low tide. Edit: Oh, wait! It was mentioned that the stern line was attached to shore. You have something there, Dave!
